IF he is hired I can't wait for the Doofus and Gallant memes starring Quinn as Doofus.

(I liked Quinn but the meme works too well)

RangerBoy nailed it. The Rangers are the most attractive coaching opening available. Its not even a question with all of the young talent and current stars on the team, upward trajectory. Not to mention the market and what kind of contract he will be offered. Also much less travel than out West.

Gallant had a sub .500 record with Columbus and a very good tenure with Florida, but as we all know was canned out of no where and there were no coaching options open that year.

"And that's a good thing," Gallant told ESPN.com over the weekend. "I'm not sitting here hoping somebody gets fired in order for me to get a call. The good thing is I've got two and a half years left on my deal; something will eventually come up."

That was an emotional mistake by Florida. And something did come up pretty quickly when he was hired by Vegas, and we all know how great that turned out. But I think Vegas got ahead of themselves after tasting the finals and got off to a slower start in that third year after exiting in the first round the year prior. Combination of factors which lead to his dismissal.

You look at Seattle and its hard to believe they will have the detailed construction and a little luck that Vegas had right off the bat. In addition many teams aren't going to make the same mistakes they made trying to protect certain players after the first expansion draft in nearly 18 years. So would Gallant want to try it from the start all over again? Or have an established team that is on the rise in a storied original 6 hockey environment?

Other than familiarity and coming full circle Columbus would be a huge challenge. Too many question marks with that team, but it would be kind of hilarious if JD out-pitched Drury and landed him. And could Columbus compete with NY with the contract offer?

Well.....who can outbid us ? Gallant is steering the bus at this point of negotiations....it's that simple. If the Rangers want him....they will have to meet his salary obligations . What's a few million to our owner for something decent for a change ? If they screw this up .....then it will be why we only have one Cup in a gazillion years .

Man, if they go with Tocchet (or anyone else really) this board will literally implode.

I hope they won’t sit on it much longer. We know Sullivan is sticking around. Do you really want to wait to see if Cassidy gets the can if they lose this series? I don’t think they will let him go and even if they do I’d prefer Gallant with this club.

Hoping this gets wrapped up soon and we can move onto the draft and free agency full bore.

Even if Paul Maurice gets fired, I'd still want Gallant. I'd only take Rod the Bod or Quenneville over him and frankly, I'm not waiting around. I'd offer Gallant the job tomorrow.

Just because only a pair of names have been made public does not mean thats exactly the amount of people who they've spoken to.

Sometimes all certain candidates really warrant is a "phone call." Im sure every one here who has interviewed for a job before hasn't gotten beyond that round of the interview process. That isn't going to be any different for candidates for an NHL coaching position.

But really, as long as they hire the right coach who really gives a f*** how many guys they talk to?

According to Dreger, Gallant is most likely to be offered and take the NYR job.

Dream outcome, please let it happen.

This is gonna be so spicy. This guy is a freaking mystery from A to Z and I can't wait to find out what happens, what his coaching style brings, if there is dark luggage.

Somethings are gonna happen! Either Gallant will unlock some new tiers in players and make them play like men. A total change of demeanor with the squad. Or it's gonna crash and burn.

How does it work with coaches in the last year of their deal? Once they get canned their contract is done, other teams allowed to talk to them? Or do the teams still hold their rights, like players, until a specific date?
