We can technically speak with Brindamour now since his contract is over correct?
I don’t believe it’s over yet. I think it’s officially set to end July 28th this year since that’ll mark when the NHL calendar flips to next season. It’s normally just like UFA on July 1st, but the entire NHL calendar was pushed back due to covid

If they hire Gallant I'm pretty interested to see how he works with the team and what assistants he brings in etc. The info that he isn't the X's and O's guy and relies on his assistants for that but is really good at getting his players to buy into that stuff and work together is just kinda...interesting. Like, delegating the details to people who are real good at that and then your job is to motivate and get everyone to work together as a team to execute those details.
If that's what he's good at then maybe he can get some of the top players on the Rangers to buy into a bit more of a greasy game when they need it

Just about every NHL player is extremely skilled. Its a very hard game to play at that level. Even guys like Tanner Glass would dominate (Im using the word loosely, but you get the idea) at almost any other level below once they've been through the thick of an NHL season. And I know there are some here who will laugh at that but it's true.

I agree, it is a special type of leadership that sometimes elevates a group of players. In the NHL it may even be more challenging since every player and every star has a very strong and individual personality. For good reason. They got to where they are.

So I agree. It will be interesting to see a pure motivator take charge of this particular group. But I think with Gallant he isnt just pushing buttons and being abrasive with all of the tough unwavering demand and honesty a Torts would deliver.

That can work with the right group but I don't think it's this one. You need a former player that they will respect, one that has had success and one that can sympathize with the game to game ebbs and flows of a season. And when the shit hits the fan and its time to buck up in a pressure situation he has a knack of getting the entire team buying in and pulling the rope with a purpose. Thats exactly who Gallant is. Check out some of the comments from the Canadian players who just won gold. The post below is another reason.

Do the Rangers actually believe they have a shot at Rod? I'm starting to think they do, right or wrong. Otherwise Gallant would have been hired.

Canes were already a great team by the time Rod got there. All he did was coach their SH% to be better, and then locker room stuff.

Gallant is legit on-ice tho.

Rods leverage is NYR.

He’s not leaving Carolina for Buffalo, Columbus or expansion Seattle.

I don’t know why Rod would leave a team on the cusp in Raleigh, unless he has issues with ownership or ownership has issues with him. I’m surprised either party wants the contract to expire.

With that said, why not Seattle? I imagine he has a pretty great relationship with Ron Francis already.

Are we really doing this? It's like a model falls in love with us, but we're holding out hope for the supermodel. Why can't we just be happy with the model!??!

Rod's a great coach obviously but i cant help feeling like what hes got going in Carolina will never happen here, even if they do woo him with the money. Hes won a Cup there as a player and has been on the bench in some capacity for like 10 years. Just seems weird to be pining after such an entrenched guy

If there's a holdup it will have to do with his staff. It's been said that Rod is waiting for his staff to get taken care of before he signs. Also Dundon is famously cheap.

I'd be shocked if it weren't Gallant.

With where the team is right now I can think of maybe 2 guys who I'd rather have here.
Do any Ranger fans feel that your owner who seems like a meddling dick might be rubbed the wrong way by a guy like Gallant? Is Drury gonna be a yes man? Cuz it seems Gallant doesn't fit well with those types.
