If they hire Gallant I'm pretty interested to see how he works with the team and what assistants he brings in etc. The info that he isn't the X's and O's guy and relies on his assistants for that but is really good at getting his players to buy into that stuff and work together is just kinda...interesting. Like, delegating the details to people who are real good at that and then your job is to motivate and get everyone to work together as a team to execute those details.
If that's what he's good at then maybe he can get some of the top players on the Rangers to buy into a bit more of a greasy game when they need it

Who's in charge of the Gallant tracker?
This is all based on hearsay !!!! OK I have been busy with work and such and have not had much of an ear to the street on Gallant hiring the last two weeks . I will reveal what I heard last night from some hockey friends . They told me it was a done deal . The final details were being worked on and it probably would be released tonight Tuesday the 8th .

Sounded good....as do most stories we want to believe . When pressed for a source my friends told me that a cousin of Gerard's told them this stuff . It was a first cousin and I know him.....but I still am leery of them all actually knowing it and having kept it this quiet thus far . Gallant has some close friends that also own a local radio station....the same one that broke the Keenan negotiating during the 94 finals with St Louis . I would say they will be the ones that likely break the news first . Other than that...New Yorkers know as much as us PEI residents at this time as far as I know.

Atta boy! Nice scoop.

On the flip side, how is Brad Richards and do you know his dentist?

Gerard Gallant remains the leader in the clubhouse, but Rangers president-general manager Chris Drury is waiting to see if there is fallout from second-round playoff series that could free up another candidate or two to succeed David Quinn behind the bench, according to several individuals familiar with the team’s coaching search. That means, first, the Blueshirts are going to monitor the situation in Carolina, where Rod Brind’Amour’s ’Canes were down 3-1 to the Lightning entering Tuesday’s Game 5 in Raleigh.

The Rangers are also believed monitoring the situations with Winnipeg’s Paul Maurice following the Jets’ second-round sweep by Montreal after having swept Edmonton in the opening round, and with Boston’s Bruce Cassidy, whose Bruins are down 3-2 to the Islanders heading into Wednesday’s showdown at the Coliseum.

Rangers monitoring playoff coaches, Gerard Gallant favorite

absolutely no thanks on Maurice.. and I doubt Brindy or Cassidy shake loose. I really hope we dont end up getting screwed waiting.

I'm assuming Drury has told Gallant to bring any offers he may receive from other teams before making a decision. At least I hope so...

LOL...it's not quite a scoop by any means but I am surprised that more have not been talking it up on Facebook or around the coffee shops or the local papers .This is big news for this small Province that is a hockey hotbed . Gallant is a pretty private guy thus I don't see him tipping his hat to even his family or in laws...he likely is the front runner but I think he is looking for big money from a club he knows certainly has it and is half desperate at the moment after the end of season massacre that they had .

I think Brad is in NYC sipping wine . Not sure who his dentist is these days LOL...

If RBA gets lowballed and becomes available Drury will go after him hard. But I could certainly see a reunion with Francis in Seattle take shape too.

In the end you know the Rangers will offer him and his crew the most lucrative deal and if RBA is serious about hooking them up then location also becomes a determining factor.

Does he and his crew all make the decision to uproot their families and relocate in Seattle area? Quite a jump. Or would staying put on the east coast and possibly keeping their current home, communities, being much much closer, playing some games in Raleigh each season AND getting paid be more attractive? Sounds to me like the logical choice.

Not to mention the idea of starting completely fresh with an expansion team that could take years to develop in comparison to an original 6 team on the rise stocked with talent.

In the end I think RBA stays and Gallant is hired

To me it boils down to either Gallant or Brind'Amour. How each coach would want to change our third and fourth lines (which are a current mess). Brind'Amour is probably using the NYR's search to bolster his position with other clubs but I would hope that he would seriously consider the NYR's head coaching position. Gallant is my first choice though.

Ditto that...and as much as I prefer Gallant I can live with Coach Q or Brindy .
I’m a bit apprehensive about Brindy. I wonder if he got additional buy in from players because he was a local legend — and whether that would translate to another market. Also, Carolina is a far deeper squad than we are, though our goaltending is unquestionably superior. I do wonder how much of his success is attributable to talent, reputation / respect in the local market, and the maturing of that talent during his tenure. How much of Carolinas success is truly attributable to him? Is there an advanced stat for that? Can’t think of anything at the top of my head but would love to learn.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post links to other media outlets ....see what happens . Here is a post I clipped from my Facebook on an upcoming show and which I think is an interview of sorts . The host Paul Schurman is a good friend of Gallants . Darryl Boyce is married to Gallant's daughter. It should be available online . I'm just the messenger . Maybe Turk gives us an update on his status during the show.....as I did say they likely will announce it first via this station in an earlier reply . These guys are all pretty tight friends . Same station that broke the Keenan story back in 94 courtesy of Doug MacLean another buddy of the Summerside NHL crew. Keep in mind that is Atlantic Standard Time .

"It's Elite PEI Coaches Day on Sports Roundup this Sunday between 9-10 am on C102 SpudFM with former NHL Coach of the Year Gerard Gallant back home from Head Coaching Team Canada to Gold at the International Ice Hockey Federation Men's Worlds in Latvia, and former NHL and UNB Reds player Darryl Boyce who was Director of Hockey Operations and Assistant Coach with the Moncton Wildcats last season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. You can also listen online at spud.fm".

Hopefully Gallant is named Rangers HC before Sunday

Looks line another team is about to out of the coaching market as well. C’on Gallant, sign the contract with us :)

Seems like it’s just a waiting game at this point. I was surprised that Shaw didn’t get the nod as HC in Columbus, but I’m also not surprised that they’re sticking to an internal candidate either.

Granato makes sense for BUF too since apparently they liked their competitive turnaround after Krueger got canned. The underlying stats weren’t there, but BUF is terrible, so idk if I can blame him.
