I have a feeling 7 people may want to change their votes...

i have a feeling most voted due to a bandwagon

Gallant is really good yet lasts about 3 years per job

Torts is really bad yet lasts about 3/4 years per job (besides the Lightning)

Rod Brind’Amour is great with a nice roster in Carolina while Tocchet is terrible with an awful roster in AZ

AV was great when he arrived and now stinks

Honestly, i have no idea who the coach should be yet think this landslide voting has more to do with a popular bandwagon than certainty as to why one coach is better than the other.

Meanwhile, i doubt any of the above applaud these Rangers 3rd and 4th lines and would be challenged to beat any of these playoff teams unless roster additions are made.

Article in the Athletic praising Gallant for his approach w Team Canada and getting players to buy in to their "underdog" status due to having an unheralded roster (sound familiar?).

Team Canada became the first team in the history of the IIHF event to win gold after posting four losses, knocking off Russia, the U.S. and Finland in the medal round to win it all.

“It was a special group,’’ said Gallant. “Character guys that came together. A lot of guys didn’t want to come this year with Covid and everything, and we understood this. But the guys that came really came together and made a name for themselves. They really became a team.’’
And they played for their coach.

“One of the best coaches at getting the guys to buy in and play hard for him,’’ Team Canada GM Roberto Luongo said via text message from Latvia on Sunday night.

“Great players’ coach. Very easy going.’’

In the department of timing is everything, Gallant’s world championship gold medal comes at a time when he’s an NHL free agent coach.

While probably not the exact message he will instill with the NYR group should he get the job, speaks to his ability to craft a narrative and get players to buy in which is important. Reading the tea leaves, have to wonder if that would have been useful last season.

Curious to see if this is ultimately the route Drury chooses to go. Based on the end of season drama, would be curious if a "players coach" was supported by everyone in the org.

I think that if Gallant and Quinn said the same thing the team would listen to Gallant more. Not saying they hated Quinn, but for whatever reason he kept telling the right message to diagnose their problems and the vets continued to play their own way. Is it a credibility thing? Quinn's lack of consistency with accountability lost the room? Who knows.

BA built the roster in Carolina. He was a development coach there before he became head coach. Tocchet was greased into the coaching lane because he is "Tocchet".

Tocchet was let go by the Coyotes after being granted a lease of life by the new GM to be evaluated. He didn't make it, so now he is on the PR circuit. It's not bandwagon for all, it's basic logic and evaluation. A real coach vs a "something". Tocchet was a big part of the Chayka circus. Picking him would be nuts and instantly point to serious issues within management.

If Gallant isn't the Rangers head coach, something is wrong. Columbus stinks. That team is awful. Seattle is an expansion team. Will the Kraken be another Vegas team or they will be a typical expansion team? Ron Francis is not an aggressive GM. He will build through the draft. Francis made no significant player for player trades in his four seasons as Hurricanes GM. George McPhee made a million trades. He used his space to add bad contracts for picks. He traded away draft picks and young guys for Pacioretty and Stone. Francis seems like a conservative and meticulous guy judging him from his days in Carolina. The team didn't have much money but he made no major trades. Some teams learned their lesson. They are better off losing the player in the expansion draft rather than trading away young assets and draft picks to keep a certain player from being selected. Minnesota might look to do something to keep Seattle from selecting Dumba if Guerin can't trade Dumba for a good return. The Wild are going with 7-3-1. The Wild have 3 D with NMC clauses. Suter, Spurgeon and Brodin. Mike Russo reported Guerin and Francis have discussed making a trade regarding the Wild's situation on D.

The Rangers are the better job by a huge margin.

I read Gallant and his family liked living in Ohio when he was coaching the Bluejackets. The team needs to be rebuilt. None of the players want to stay there. Maybe Foligno goes back there this summer. He is an older guy with a family. Panarin left. Dubois asked to be traded. He was traded. His problem wasn't only with Torts. He wanted a better/bigger hockey market. Is Dubois happy in Winnipeg? Is Winnipeg his idea of a bigger/better market? He wasn't played well there. He has one season remaining on his contract. Maybe the Rangers can talk to Winnipeg about Dubois. Their GM is another guy who likes to procrastinate. Trouba wasn't staying there. Cheveldayoff should have traded Trouba before he was one year away from walking away for nothing. Laine is a free agent this summer. Is he staying there? Jones wants out. Werenski is not staying there long-term. Columbus is America's Winnipeg. Gallant will be lucky to win in Columbus.

The Rangers are the best job. Not close at all.

It will be a major disappointment if Gallant is not the head coach of the Rangers,

I wouldn't discount Bob Hartley at least interviewing before they make a decision. Hartley went straight to Latvia after he won the Gagarin Cup this spring.

Friedman mentioned today Gallent "has a great shot at the NYR job".

Says Columbus won't want to pay what Gallant will be looking for. Isn't sure how serious Seattle is.

Says Gallent isn't an X's and O's guy, he lets his assistants handle that. Gallant knows how to get guys to buy in and play for him, and these days thats the most important thing.

You may be on to something here. I picked up a whisper that this hasn’t been a marriage made in heaven. My source also mentioned that PLD may also be playing hurt right now so he isn’t sure whether that is the bigger problem here. Either way, worth keeping an eye on.

I gotta be honest I enjoyed RB going scorched earth on western CA and middle America more than I ever thought I would

But I agree - it's gotta be Gallant. And if he ends up in Seattle or Columbus, that's an error on us.

Gallant family likely liked living in Ohio because there were also quite a few PEI people hires with the club like radio P by P guy George Matthews ....Doug MacLean as GM and there was also another guy that looked after the teams itinerary and such Jim Rankin . They were all from Gallant's hometown and all worked at one time for our local Tier 2 Junior club in Summerside PEI. Columbus fired him...I doubt he goes back now . I tend to think at this stage he goes for the money and that should be from NY . Go ....make a bundle and if it only lasts 3 years no big deal . Then he goes back to the Wings to finish things off with his buddy Yzerman .

he won what ever the championship was in the Swiss league before flaming out of Calgary in spectacular fashion.

he would be a horrendous hire.

Various coaches "flame out" (although not in Calgary so credit there for the pun) in their stops. Hartley was fired a year removed from winning the Jack Adams because he was Feaster's hire, not Burke and Treliving. They were planning on firing him the season he won Adams.

He also just won a championship and had his team in the finals the prior season in the KHL. FYI Omsk has not been a KHL powerhouse like SKA and CKSA, prior to Hartley joining they had only been to the Gagarin Cup Finals once.

Most of all he has the personal connection to Drury, which matters when it comes to this business.
