Drury needs to hire this man before someone else does....

the whole tocchet thing makes me wonder if this is a case of when NHL insider groups get too focused on a guy they know well (was a player, assistant coach, etc) and think is a "good guy" and manage to ignore the lack of any results in his coaching career etc

This is 100% the case:
Source - every Coyotes fan that watched him coach since 2017.

They did not (yet). Someone changed their display name/avatar on Twitter and posted a fake tweet about hiring Gallant pretty much right as the WC ended.
Yeah. I noticed that the nanosecond after I made the post, so i edited it. Couldn't find a way to delete the post, but what can ya do.

I got baited.

Rick Tocchet was a junior teammate of Ron Francis nearly 40 years ago. Tocchet and Francis were teammates in Pittsburgh.

Tocchet was an assistant coach with the Avs in the early 2000's but Drury had already been traded to the Flames.

If the Penguins fired Mike Sullivan, I thought Tocchet would have ended up there. Ron Hextall and Tocchet were teammates in Philadelphia. Maybe Tocchet returns to Pittsburgh as an assistant coach under Sullivan.

Drury would be out of his mind if Tocchet is the guy here.

Flyers just announced that Ian Lapierre will be coaching their AHL team next season, which means that Scott Gordon is now available. If I remember correctly, he’s been linked to the Rangers in the past, and he’s also had Gallant on his staff with the Islanders back in 09 or so.

I still want Gallant, but Gordon would be an interesting dark horse candidate to keep in mind. I’d prefer him over Tocchet to be honest.

Agree with your analysis on Tocchet but don’t sell Chychrun short. He’s a top ten defenseman, maybe even top six

I heard an LA Kings podcast about two weeks ago. John Hoven and Denis Bernstein. The Kings would love to add Chychrun but he is not available. Werenski is another guy on the Kings list. They didn't discuss Seth Jones but the Kings will probably be interested in Jones if they can sign him to an extension. Werenski isn't long for Columbus. Werenski has one more season left on his contract. He will be one year away from group III. One year contract next summer. Maybe a trade. Does Werenski want to play at home for the Red Wings? Free agency in the summer of 2023. JD has his work cut out for him in Columbus. JD got a 5 year deal in Columbus. He will need all 5 years to turn that thing around.

Gordon could end up on Gallant’s staff

It is somewhat amazing that there is no coaching candidate with a better rep/resume than Gallant (although I guess Hartley is out there).
You've got to be kidding. He's won a Royal Bank Cup, 2 President's Cups, a Memorial Cup,and won CHL coach of the year twice . He turned a losing Florida franchise into a winner in his first year and a division winner in the second year. They fired him early in the 3rd season while star players were out with injury and they had a record barely above .500. When he left the team started losing even after star players returned and missed the playoffs for 2 years. He was a Jack Adams finalist with Florida. In his first year in Vegas he took an expansion team to the Stanley Cup Finals. He won the Jack Adams Trophy. That's for best coach in the league if you didn't know. And now he has taken one of the most lackluster Canadian rosters ever to win a world championship. Btw that list consists of several things no coach has ever done before. He is easily one of the 5 best coaches in hockey and arguably the very best in coaching young players.
