The case for keeping the top 4. There isnt one. It means Shanhan is an idiot. This team got skyjacked by a kid who never played hockey for 5 years. One round in 5 years and all that money..Pejorative Slured.
Yup, seems so obvious, but most here would disagree with you and say they can’t win without 34, 16, 88. Which imo is hogwash……..

You could probably trade everyone (except Matthews/Rielly/Woll) and rebuild a team faster than re-signing the same core to more money and trying to find bargain bins to make up for all the shortcomings.
Completely agree, of those being traded the skilled ones can be replaced, and the rest are roster turn overs year in, year out. So essentially your losing 16, 88, and JT and a bunch of plugs in your scenario……….

I haven’t read one post that claims ‘they can’t win without….’

You lost me

I agree it’s a process but at some point you have to move the process along especially when it’s not working. 7 years with one first round win.
Had they made the playoffs only 3 of the last 7 years, it would have been ok?

Nope. I have enjoyed them making the playoffs the last 7 years . however I would certainty expect more than 1 single round win.
With the talent of this core I would certainly expect them not to have taken 7 years to win that 1 round Otherwise what is the point in spending 50% of the cap on 4 forwards. Maybe it’s the wrong forwards. As individuals the 4 are very talented but the sum of the parts is just not getting it done. Bringing them all back is pointless especially since the increase in their contracts is going to eat up any raise in the cap so we will be right back where we started

I’d add it’s not that they lost, it’s how they lost. Let’s be honest this team has zero compete, personally I’d rather watch a team give it it’s all and lose than watch elite talent mail it in. I can’t be the only one who feels this way???????

You're not. 7 years and a single round is unacceptable.

There is no case... The fans demand Hardcore and MLSE gives us cheesy Softcore all the time. Real Leafs fans want a real hardcore team.

Lunch pail skill. Blue collar compete. If I want All-Star, I’ll watch the Globetrotters.

Are there any psychology analyses of why sports fans enjoy "hating" on certain players without real basis?

There have been several psychological analyses of why sports fans may enjoy "hating" on certain players without a real basis. One theory is that it can be a way for fans to connect with others who share their opinions, as well as to feel a sense of belonging to a group. Additionally, some research suggests that it can be a way for fans to express their frustrations with their own lives, or to distract themselves from negative emotions.Another theory is that it can be a way for fans to establish an identity for themselves, as well as to differentiate themselves from others. For example, a fan may identify as a fan of a certain team, and then use their hatred for a rival team or player to further define their identity as a fan. Some researchers also suggest that fans may hate on certain players because of their perceived arrogance, or because they feel like the player is getting too much attention or accolades. Additionally, some fans may hate on certain players because of their perceived lack of sportsmanship or poor behavior on or off the field. It is important to note that these theories are just that – theories – and they do not necessarily apply to all sports fans. Additionally, it is important to remember that "hating" on someone without a real basis is not a healthy or respectful way to engage with sports or with others.

Though we arguably had that during the Burke years. I remembering pretty miserable as a fan ;)
Not enough skill. Lupul kept getting hurt but displayed that grit. No depth (much like now). No D.
Blue collar doesn’t mean McLaren and Orr. You need your top guys to have bite. One winger like Marner/Nylander is ok but not two. Someone needs to move for a different core member. Tavares needs to go. A rework needs to be done.

Chatgtp told me that sometimes the observations of fans are just correct and pointing out the players lackluster playoff performances are true, valid and reasonable. Also that 7 of 9 AI agree with this.

We had that during the Quinn and Burns years, which were the most successful years the Leafs have had since the 60s. How convenient that you "forgot" to mention that.

Good one, the humour here is why I come, now that I know the Leafs failures falls on the disenchanted fans, I’ll put my rose coloured glasses on………

That was great hockey, Leafs could use that 3rd line of Ozbourne, Zezel, Berg, no floaters there……..

Leafs did good tanking and gettin some assets skill players but you have to movethem for real contenders

This the only answer that matters.

We have won a single playoff round in 7 years and we were definitely outplayed in that round.

We regularly get embarrassed off the ice by far less talented teams (Montreal, Columbus, and heck even Florida...)

If the Leafs battled hard 60 mins a night every game and just came out on the wrong side of a coin flip I could live with that. This team was down 2-0 in the series to Florida and literally didn't even show up to play game 3 at all.

We shrug it off all the time when the Leafs play like crap once they get a lead, or start the season slow, or play down to lower opponents and then act all pikachu face when they get blasted in the playoffs every year

Compete and care from this core is at zero or negative, something big needs to change

Our current goal song screams "cheesy softcore".

Absolutely. I imagine after we give Marner and Matthews massive overpays it'll be skip the suits, flower shirts at the gates and the song changed to...

Milli Vanilla should change the song to Blame it on the Rain. Blame it on the Refs. Blame it on the goalie. Gotta blame it on something…yeah, yeah.
