In the regular season, sure. With AM having an off-year this year and injury concerns
No simplistic is doing the same thing over and over again because of fear of trying something different.
I get what you are saying, but don't believe that they've done the same thing over and over again. Next years team will have five players left from 2019-20.... there has been substantial changes. That's more turnover than Vegas.. who just won the cup.
Sure, it's about making the right changes.
Over a similar period... Colorado stuck with MacKinnon, Landeskog, Rantanen, Makar, their core... and they changed the pieces around, until they won.
We could do the same thing for every team.
Teams who win.. rarely move their elite pieces, but do change the pieces around, until they find something that works.
I don't think that moving Marner, Matthews, or Nylander is wise... if Matthews is healthy and if their next contract demands will allow us to build a team around them.
Tavares... hmmm... I don't think he can be moved. I mean... I'd love the cap space though, and I don't think he's a negative asset at all. There are teams that needs a C, and Tavares despite his weaknesses is still a PPG C.. for example.. Columbus NEEDS a C like Tavares, and I'd bet they'd pay pretty well for it... and it would give us cap space... but they likely don't ask him to waive, and I doubt he'd waive.
I mean, if you want change, to make change, and appreciate we'd go backwards... cool
