This is for DocWest...believe it or not, got to test my theory the very next game:
A female Coyote fan, say about 40 to 45, decided to attend the game fully decked out in a Coyote jersey two sizes too big, right behind my sorry ass.
Didn't think too much of it until right after the national anthem, in which she loudly declared that their arena in Glendale was state of the art compared to the old barn Staples. I rolled my eyes and thought "here we go." She also repeatedly declared something about the air at Staples; I couldn't really make out what she was complaining about, but it wasn't complimentary, that I was pretty sure of.
So she starts out pretty vocal about rooting for the Coyotes, which I'm ok with. No problem with that. Then she starts to get into about how they should start sending some Coyote players down to the minors. I really wanted to tell her she was watching a minor league team, but I held back. The fianceé was giving me that "don't" look.
So she is yelling full blast and the fianceé complains she is yelling right into her ear; luckily, the seats to the right of me were empty so I told her to move to my right to get away from the torture. Then, of course, she starts getting on Quick's case because "he sure ain't the goalie he used to be." I kept my mouth shut. Still nothing worthy to ***** to the ushers about, not really, except for the constant chatter, and for anyone close to us in 111, you know exactly what I am talking about. By the way, she was with her husband and/or significant other, but he was okay, he didn't make any disparaging remarks about the Kings or the arena and just tried to stay positive about the Coyotes.
Anyway, she doesn't stop. She has to continue to disparage on the Kings now, because obviously how much can you cheer a Coyotes team that has already surprised you by taking a big lead in a game they had no business being in? So the Kings are getting feisty, getting into scraps, and she is complaining how the Kings always resort to fighting, that's the only way they can win. I kept my mouth shut. No need to engage the moron, especially with some of the idiotic comments she was making about her own team. Indeed, she was typical of most fans on this board, where her team never really commits a penalty but the other team is constantly getting away with murder. Just too low of a hockey IQ really to engage.
So the game drags on, Phoenix has a 4-0 lead late in the second period, and finally she gets under my skin with a comment like "So sad. The Kings can't even score." But not before she got under the skin of the guy a few seats away from me, who turned around and told her to shut her mouth, right before I turned around and told her "you know what is sad? That you keep babbling on and on about how sad the Kings are and yet we have those" and I point to the two SC banners. She lamely replies "scoreboard!" and I say "fine, you win the first-week-in-October championship, congratulations."
Of course, my SO is livid with me for engaging the moron, and so is the guy's SO to the left of me, for the same reason. I guess they want us to take the high road, but I do have a breaking point, especially about someone who insists on yammering the entire ****ing game with the intent to just ruin it for others sitting around her.
She was better in the third period, but not by much. By this time, her husband/SO had shut up completely, and probably had had a talk with her in between periods. Still, she was a dick about the Kings "poor sportsmanship" and the guy to the left of me was clearly perturbed and gave it to her again about how wrong she was and tried to explain to her the game...his SO was significantly pissed he engaged her again. I already knew the score with my SO, so I kept my mouth shut.
Anyway, it didn't rise to where I needed to get security, but it got close. Next time I bring my buddy to the game so I don't have to get chastised about talking down a moron. Then again, it is probably just best to call security and tell them the dumb ***** is interfering with your ability to enjoy the game...even more than the home team's interference.
