Reset in progress
Bright side: We're now last in the division, conference, and league...so the only way is up, right? ...right?
What we gave up for him, still boggles my mind.Be honest, would it surprise anyone here if this team missed the playoffs? We are seeing a continuation of where they left off of last season.
And it pains me to see Lucic may be another Kevin Stevens like dud of a power forward whose best years are behind him.

Well, we can be relegated midseason, maybe?
Schultz on waivers!!! Going to Ontario if clears! That's bright, or at least a start. As some post, play the kids. I'd like to see a PP unit of Shore, Weal, Mersch, Toffoli, and Doughty. 0-10? And not looking good!! I see Greene sitting a lot this year, and we will slowly see more of Forbort.
does that mean they'll finally play forbort?!
wow that PP unit would be awesome. really wish kings would capitalize on some of that calder cup winning first line chemistry. weal-mersch-onei were just so good together. i guess oneill is gone but weal and mersch could still play on a line. it'd be nice to see.

The line blender needs accountability. Why are some players immune to it while others are shifted all over the place shift by shift?
for me it's not suggesting playing a bunch of youngsters or totally revamping the team. but taking the success of a top line in the ahl and moving it up isn't a bad thing, even if just a pair of guys like weal/mersch. the kings did it, to some extent, when they brought up toffili, pearson and vey - and boom! instant production and chemistry. vey didnt stick but toffoli and pearson invigorated the team until pearson's injury. shore hasn't had the same success but he's never been paired with a linemate that has created the same chemistry. so you can have your vets/stars/stalwarts on the top 2 lines and then some youth bringing up the rear in 3 and 4. a good mix would help too - have some experienced defence backing up a young offensive front on the third line, and then have an enforcer, maybe more experienced group on the 4th with some younger defense. just keep developing.
new jersey have talked recently about their failing to keep moving youth up and evolving the team. the kings haven't quite gotten stuck in that bind but no doubt sutter is a traditionalist who likes to stick with grit and experience above youth and energy.

kinda like King and Nolan in 2012, was it?
idk, Shore has looked good but Im a little worried about Weal. we'll see what happens
our defense has been really bad so I could see Forbort getting a taste
Not sure why so many get excited with playing so many youngsters...I guess if you don't mind second-division type results with no chance to contend for a Cup then have at it. But I fail to see why so many of you think that playing a bunch of youngsters is going to get us anywhere in the standings.
As usual, like every damn season, the six-figure players will be blamed. This team lives and dies by Kopitar, Carter, Doughty, and Quick. They have not played well at all. Period. This team will go nowhere very quickly with Kopitar and Carter being invisible, Doughty playing average, and Quick letting in every shot.

Agreeing to an eight-year term was never in doubt, but finding common ground on the money has proven to be more complicated than expected
I understand that DL has had a boatload of other stuff to deal with so it could be time was at a premium , but Kopitar's new contract has been out there for awhile and 'common ground on money' issue is curious. Negotiations tend to start with the agent /player on the high side and the GM/team on the low end. But usually they find a settlement in the middle in a reasonable amount of time.
About a week back Dreger was on a TSN podcast and said that the Kings had expected the deal to be done before the season started and the fact the were 'fairly far apart' on money was something that was mildly concerning.
Maybe DL's bottom line figure is lower than I thought. I figured the Kings would be at about 8.5 or so Kopitar's camp at 10.5 and they meet at about 9.5.
But for Kopitar's camp to be standing firm so far, maybe the Kings offer was lower than that.
Just a bit surprised it isn't done.
Stamkos, I fully expected to be unsigned , I don't think he'll sign with them and frankly, with 6 contracts for their younger top player son the horizon, they can't afford what he's asking.
Why?
