One way of doing it would be to ask for and stick to $10.5M and forcing Lombardi into a trading him. It would allow Kopitar to "escape" without coming out and saying trade me. Don't think he wants to be that guy.

the point is kopi wants to stay and lombardi wants him to stay. i still believe they'll sign.

Yeah, but there was something different about last year's team. Barring the disappearance of our "top dogs" and Calgary being a pest, something was off. They just didn't seem like they were actually going to dig themselves out of that mess. I might be reading into it a little too much, but my point stands.

Maybe 2014 will end up being too much. Too big of a high. 0-3 comeback, 3 road Game 7 wins, down 0-3, then down 2-3, then losing a 3-1 lead, as Brown said, the mythical dragon in Chicago, the multi-goal comebacks against the Rangers, the Cup winning goal in OT. Going through SJ, Anaheim, and Chicago, you couldn't pick 3 more emotionally relevant teams for the Kings. All in a 2 month span.

Like a player that retires, and can't find anything in the rest of his life that gives him that same thrill of playing and being in the locker room, maybe they gave everything they had to win that Cup. Maybe there's nothing that can compare to that very specific and unique 26 game run.

Or maybe that's all just gibberish, and they just don't have enough talent, or aren't playing well.

McNabb looked good on the first pairing!!!

This is the same team that struggled against Calgary, and shot 3% for an extended period of time. This is nothing new. Box out, keep Kings shooting from the perimeter and capitalize when the Kings make a mistake. With the number of new/inexperienced guys and Muzzin , there'll be plenty of opportunities for opponents.
No, McNabb did not look good on the first pairing. He was average at best and that is against one of the worst rosters in the NHL this year...
His positioning, play anticipation is on Greens level...
Don't get me started on the awful first pass ALL of our defenders did in the first two games. That was almost grotesque passing from our d, no reason to cuddle them.

we had an interesting debate today on a slovenian hockey forum, about lak's future + about kopi's future in lak, with ex hockey players, coaches & hardcore fans (kind of similar as here i guess). bottomline: kopi should leave lak. why? bcs the lak ship is sinking. this is the public sentiment here.

the criticism against lak is very specific and similar as you'll find it here: sutter is an open book, lombardi is an emotional wreck, the team lost their best grinders, the new players have trouble finding their role, the team lost the identity... but kopi still has the potential to win something with another team.

i'm sticking with lak & i wish kopi signs but i smell the gass leaking as well. just start winning please.

So that's why he's got 16 goals in his last 93 games.

Just as an aside, the Kings have new, more awesome graphics on the overhead super scoreboard this season.

It all worked to perfection on opening night.

Unfortunately (and not just the overhead), the SOG, hits, and face-offs stats were all stuck at 0 for the entire first period, and reported the wrong amounts for the remainder of the game. I ended up having to go to a CBS Sports News app for the correct numbers.

Curiously, "face-offs" is abbreviated "F.O." at Staples Center, leading me a two-game confusion until a light dawned in my head. Oh well.

please. i'm just a messenger. if you don't like the news go to our local forum and express yourself.

I'm just saying his 16 goals, in addition to Lombardi's mental breakdown, Sutter's inability to coach, etc, etc, aren't exactly plugging any holes on the ship.

I'm an optimist, and like I said, I'd give it 10 games before pouring gasoline on anything, but anytime I see the players collectively awful rather than one or two, I lay that on the coaching/staff rather than the players. I'm not saying Sutter has to go, but maybe there IS something going on that stinks. Personally I think the whole organization is reeling and they need to work through it, but if we're still seeing the same mistakes through game 10, it's possible the system is broken. When players stop executing and start hanging their heads, it may be time. But again, still way too early for that...I'm just getting that Terry Murray feeling.

Like I said last night, we're not playing a risky offensive system, so to give up so many breaks and goals is unacceptable if we're not doing anything to get them back.

finally more and more people are admitting Quick has been bad... Cam Ward bad

it was a witch-hunt last year when i kept mentioning that something isn't right with Quick

people told me f-u for 5 things last year:
1) My panic in warning everyone that we won't make the playoffs
2) Quick is awful
3) Let's trade Williams and Stoll at the trade deadline to at least get something in return
4) Don't trade for Sekera
5) Get Petry (if anything)

and i was grilled last year, but even today i still think those 5 assumptions/actions were dead on

No, it's more because you trolled almost every goal that went in on Quick with some variation of "I told you so." And those assumptions are still not only mostly wrong, but contradictory--like why in the hell would you trade Williams and Stoll, avoid Sekera (who is objectively better), AND get Petry?

You can't be surprised to get **** from people when you barge into every thread saying "I told you so" and break your arms patting yourself on the back.

The criticism here is on Kopi as well. He is not playing even ok at the moment, fading into the sad average of the team. Plus there are questions about his next salary or his stats - summarizing the debate it's questionable how much he got demotivated or how much the age took its toll. The average goes around 8.500.000 for 8 years (less then Kopi is asking, Kopi wants to settle at 8.400.000 for 8 we've heard). But mostly it prevails that he is the beast when it comes to a modern definition of a defensive center and that a huge hunt on him will begin if LAK fails to keep him. Toronto & Montreal mentioned first in speculations.

The other side of the story is the state of LAK at the moment. About 80% of fans here = pessimistic. Deeply pessimistic and just waiting for a collapse.

My thoughts are that the team chemistry isn't the same without Williams, Stoll, and maybe even RR. These 3 may have not wore a letter on their jerseys, but let's not kid ourselves, they were a big part of our success.

It'll take some time for the team to gel. But yeah, it's way too early to be hitting the panic button. Having said that, I do get my kicks from others panicking on here though. I find it entertaining.

Be honest, would it surprise anyone here if this team missed the playoffs? We are seeing a continuation of where they left off of last season.

And it pains me to see Lucic may be another Kevin Stevens like dud of a power forward whose best years are behind him.

I'm still waiting until game 20 before I start singing the doom of the team. Lotta players still need to get into game shape, something that can only be done actually playing games, and chemistry still needs to be developed after the shuffling in personnel and down time. Kings have never rushed out of the gates with their hair on fire and two games isn't indicative of anything really.

I think it would be a surprise because it would mean the roster under performed again. Not like an utterly shocking surprise, but this should be a playoff team. Hope that made sense.

There's no doubting they should be one, but they don't seem to perform as one since the 20-4-15 season. Their offense is constantly a one-and-done effort. No set plays, just shots and hardly any second or third chances. I don't see the drive and hunger in this team, and it isn't exclusive to just these first two games of the season.

There is too many stupid comments on the main boards. Feels like the Kings have been doing everything wrong the past 4 years according to HF. What a bunch of haters.

Id be surprised. its not like the Kings are playing to their potential and losing, they are playing like an AHL team and losing like one. once they figure out how to play as a team they'll be fine. its only two games into the season for cryin out loud

makes sense that it's a chemistry thing. you have vet players in new roles with new linemates. rookies and sophomores tying to find their groove. it's understandable to a degree.

but i don't think quick letting in soft goals or kopitar missing on too many face-offs or the lack of finish on PP can be attributed to chemistry. that's just stuff that needs to be fixed.
