It's only 2 games in but it's the way they're losing. They look the same as they did most of last year. And as was discussed pre season, they can't afford to take the first 20 games off, and use the dreaded cliché 'flip a switch' later on. They need a good start, due to the dogfight in the Central Division, the Pacific will only have the top 3 teams in the playoffs.

Sutter post game:

On whether he considered replacing Jonathan Quick with Jhonas Enroth:

No, our schedule should be the fact – our number one guy should be able to handle the schedule, when you look at it. It’s a pretty light schedule in terms of games. You need your top guy to be on top of his game. [Reporter: And he’s not right now, correct?] He didn’t play very well tonight, did he?

And I know that had been his creed in the past., and the Oct schedule was a very winnable one, but I wonder how stubborn he'll remain if Quick struggles in the next 2 games vs Canucks and Wild? There is a danger of hovering near or below 500 to start the year and playing catchup.

They're a a big team that plays a heavy game and that is a trend that is losing ground to a league evolving into a speed game.

Hopefully they turn it around Tues and get moving in the right direction and getting a quarterback on the PP would help. Seems to be a lot of misdirection and confusion out there, nobody seems to take charge , no direction.

u know i thought weal wasn't bad. he drew 2 yotes penalties. he won both his face offs. he made nice passes. and he had that one bad turnover. but lots of top guys had turnovers and giveaways as well. so meh. it should, in some ways, be more forgivable by a rookie on his first night than by your top guys. lucic had a giveaway and turnover tonight. a lot of guys - even the shore and brown line - finished minus 2 with more time on ice than weal had. i suppose sutter will sit him now though coz of that one bad play.

imagine if nolan had just buried the puck weal put on his stick right in front of the net...it'd be a whole different story. then again, that's the game. a few more conversions, bounces go your way, etc. and you have a diff game. that's why players deserve a little more slack, a little more chances/time. if kings lose their first 5 then we should be worried. but let's see. they'll likely turn it around next game.

I was honestly calling for Quick to be pulled after the 2nd goal, not necessarily because I thought they were better off with Enroth, but a message needs to be sent. I dunno. We said the same thing after the first two games against San Jose in 2014. lol Maybe Quick will bounce back like he did.

*clicks delete on dvr*

Sounds like I should be glad I stayed out drinking and testing this baby

Let's call Terry Murray, at least then we'll keep pucks out. Right now we're not keeping pucks out OR getting them in. My big complaint is that it's not like we're playing a risky offensive system so giving up all these garbage odd man breaks is unacceptable. Teams are content to play pond hockey against us in one-off games because **** it, throw chaos at the order we like to play with like the playoff Hawks and Sharks do. If we're not going to play pond hockey back, we can't be a dumpster fire on D, too, and we can't turn the puck over in terrible ways. I linked an article a while back that was a simple overview of that "How to dismantle the Kings, by the Chicago Blackhawks"-style article and it looks like EVERYONE does that now. If we're not going to adapt, get ready to deal with more of last year all this year, Flames-style collapse hockey that will keep safe shots all night in the defensive zone then just take a shot at causing damage when they eventually get the puck up ice :(

Really though sounds like the start of last year. Not gonna shoot 3% all year, and not gonna have an 85% sv. % all year. From what I saw even in the first period, it's chemistry, and turnovers and crappy D. I'm confident that will start getting sorted out in short order.

Glad to see the Kings can score as many goals as the Dodgers scored runs today.

One goal scored in each of the first two games, and they have the absolute worst special teams units on the PP and PK.

What a sorry bunch of apathetic, passive aggressive, disinterested and incompetent group of quitters.

We need to stop thinking this is the same group as the 2012 and 2014 squads because these guys have mentally checked out, and it starts with the guys up top who are supposed to step up as leaders, particularly Kopitar.

What a disappointing display man, and this has been a concern since the start of preseason where none of the top guys even bothered to perform.

Hell, these concerns go back to last season. Now they can't use the excuse that they played too much hockey.

Kopitar has been terrible to start the season. It's a contract year too.

The Kings couldn't score on an AHL caliber defense. Enough said. Right now the Kings are not executing any system or playing with any structure.

It's just baffling to watch. I am betting Lombardi is not happy at all.

Besides nobody getting inured, there is nothing positive to take from the first two games. Last nights game was pure garbage pond hockey with ZERO structure.

It's hard to pinpoint what the worst aspect of the Kings game is right now, but the PP has got to be close to the top

You know what this looks like ?

It looks like the Kings, when Terry Murray took over for Marc Crawford, and had to teach the Core from scratch, how to defend.

That is exactly what the current hockey looks like, it's amazing. It looks like the current crop of Kings, have never played, Kings Hockey. The only consistent line on the ice, that doesn't look lost, is Dustin Brown's line.

Might I add, that Brown/Shore/Lewis, have never played as a line with each other, till this season.

Can someone please elaborate Kopi's blame in these two games a bit further?

IMO he was far from good, but especially yesterday not that bad. I saw him struggling hard to somehow get over the lack of chemistry with his linemates and the lack of concept of the whole team, but he just couldn't pull the rabbit out of a hat. Thx, with respect.

Game 1: Lost 5-1
Game 2: Lost 4-1

continuing the trend, after 3 more games we'll start winning games 1-0 for the rest of the season. :sarcasm:

Anyway, for a stinky losing effort it actually wasn't as bad as the scoreline indicated. Lots of shots, possession... just not much "killer instinct" like we usually see. Got to start hoping we can pounce on their mistakes and not make too many of our own.

you dont know ? if its not the low number of shots it must be low FO%;
its a joke blaming Kopitar but you better get used to it.
The real truth is they all suck especially Quick; Carter, did he even play this 2 games ?
DD8 the same question ?

It looks to me like Sutter has lost the room

Yea, it becomes a blaming game when we get frustrated, and it's been piling up for over a year now. I'm just asking to become objective again...

I'm surprised how out of sync everyone looks. Its almost like the whole team needs to re-gel even though the basic core has been together for awhile now. The lack of spark is the most concerning, these guys don't look hungry enough.

Last year the excuse was: these guys are tired man! They played 3 straight years into June?

What's this year's excuse? Team is too talented. Especially to lose to San Jose and Arizona, AT home. Of course, it's still very early but at what point do you think the Kings should move on from Sutter?

These guys look do not look sharp and the other teams are taking advantage. My teacher would of had us staring at candles for like five hours to get us moving quicker (I know the irony, but its a great mental tool). But man, the guys look lethargic with an IQ of an AHL team.

Hard times. I see two black & white, salt & pepa scenarios in a future year:

1. LAK starts playing better. LAK gets his ass into the playoffs. LAK becomes a serious contender for the title. Kaboom.

2. LAK fails. Then we witness a death spiral. Probably Sutter leaves. Probably Lombardi leaves. Probably Kopitar leaves. Kaboom.

It's a thin line, but we'll get a kaboom.

I don't know. DL is too emotionally attached to Sutter, and he's going to ride with Sutter if this thing crashes and burns. Like you said, it's still early so it could turn around but I doubt it with this defense.

The Kings dominated the game last night. It just came down to two things. Mike Smith look like an elite goalie, and Jonathan Quick looked like a beer league goalie. So, the Kings lost. Hopefully, Quick figures it out. At one point there he had let up 9 goals in 4.5 periods.
