I don't know. DL is too emotionally attached to Sutter, and he's going to ride with Sutter if this thing crashes and burns. Like you said, it's still early so it could turn around but I doubt it with this defense.

Hopefully Lombardi has learnt from his "emotionally attached" syndrome. Did it with several players. Mike Richards, Matt Greene, Dustin Penner... the list goes on and on. He needs to learn when it's time to move on.

Hard times. I see two black & white, salt & pepa scenarios in a future year:

1. LAK starts playing better. LAK gets his ass into the playoffs. LAK becomes a serious contender for the title. Kaboom.

2. LAK fails. Then we witness a death spiral. Probably Sutter leaves. Probably Lombardi leaves. Probably Kopitar leaves. Kaboom.

It's a thin line, but we'll get a kaboom.

Couldn't help but think signing the right handed Michalek would've been a better move than getting Erhoff (not that he's been bad).

The Kings dominated the game last night. It just came down to two things. Mike Smith look like an elite goalie, and Jonathan Quick looked like a beer league goalie. So, the Kings lost. Hopefully, Quick figures it out. At one point there he had let up 9 goals in 4.5 periods.

Pretty much this.

finally more and more people are admitting Quick has been bad... Cam Ward bad

it was a witch-hunt last year when i kept mentioning that something isn't right with Quick

people told me f-u for 5 things last year:
1) My panic in warning everyone that we won't make the playoffs
2) Quick is awful
3) Let's trade Williams and Stoll at the trade deadline to at least get something in return
4) Don't trade for Sekera
5) Get Petry (if anything)

and i was grilled last year, but even today i still think those 5 assumptions/actions were dead on

but anyways here's this year's "f-u KingPuckChoo list"

but first, note that we can get by, if Quick gives us at least .905% goaltending given that our boys figure out how to score. For that to happen, the players need to pull an intifada on Sutter's system so...

1) Sutter has to go, maybe the Kings deserve a coach like Torts, i could see that happening what with the US connection he has w/ DL - i hate Torts but i'm just saying this team needs a transition in their face coach for a year or two

2) Greene & Schultz need to be replaced with a pair of mobile defencemen; even if they are very slight upgrades, it needs to be done. Greene can stay as our #7, and Schultz can stay in the AHL

3) Quick needs a shrink, because we're stuck with him, but he needs to go from god-awful to just bad; and everything wrong with Quick is in between his two ears - i truly believe this. If he can manage to reach the level of at least an Ondrej Pavelec I'd be ok with it for the year

4) Muzzin is top 4, but certainly not top 2; so that needs to be addressed as well

5) We need a decent #3C, not players that aren't ready yet (Shore, Weal - although i like to have them on the team in smaller roles for now)

6) We need to give Mersch and Forbort a chance, it can't be any worse than our current situation, and at least we get to see what we have, display them and maybe pull a bigger trade with one of these guys involved (Shore, Weal, Mersch, Forbort) as a prospect included in a bigger package to fix anything I've mentioned

7) Pearson is not a #2LW either, but that's a hole we can camouflage if everything else improves

8) if nothing gives, then for god sake's replace Schultz with a Hejda or a Visnovsky (i don't understand why some of you don't think these guys at $550k - $600k wouldn't be better options than Greene/Schultz; this is where i know some people on these boards are complete hipsters when it comes to hockey

9) and if nothing works, at the trade deadline it will be time to pull the trigger on a retool similar to Boston (untouchables would be Doughty, Carter, Toffoli)

10) oh and to people that say DL needs to go, that's wrong. He's a very good GM, he has made some bad decisions of late because mostly he fell in love with the players. So it clouded his judgement on certain things. Regardless, this man deserves a chance to fix the team, he's earned that right. Besides, he's not going anywhere either.

so can i get a f-u!?

What a sorry bunch of apathetic, passive aggressive, disinterested and incompetent group of quitters.

With all due respect, this appears to be an emotional and irrational statement and is way over the top, Ziggy.

We need to stop thinking this is the same group as the 2012 and 2014 squads because these guys have mentally checked out, and it starts with the guys up top who are supposed to step up as leaders, particularly Kopitar.

Likewise, the above statement is pretty unfair. I saw plenty of effort last night, just not enough execution. Fault them for that but to say they have "mentally checked out" is a pretty ridiculous contention.

The effort was definitely there last night. Smith saved some good ones and Quick didn't make the big saves when the kings were putting the pressure on. Offense failed to score the goals and Quick failed to make the big saves. Atleast one of those sides has to be on their game to win any hockey game.

Also, I love Weal but he just can't go around making those plays in the defensive zone. Domi capitalized on one of his misplays and the Yotes almost had another one off of his turnovers in the D-zone. He can make all the best plays in the offensive zone, but making those unnecessary dangles in the D-zone isn't going to put you on Sutter's good side as you just stepped into the big leagues.

Same story as last year. Effort? Sure. Finish? None.

Ya, I doubted how long a line with all lefties would work. I'm hoping a lucic-carter-toffoli line sticks.

Very good point. I saw at least two instances where passes were caught at awkward in-between paces with the puck in the skates and not on the left-handed sticks on that line.

You are right, it is the same as last year. Sutter tried so many changes on line combinations last night I simply could not keep up. He was all over the place. Maybe it is gonna be like this all season, players that just cannot execute with each other.

Shudder.

Early yet but one should remember the locked dressing room door last season. That may have been a message no matter how it was played down at the time but if these guys have quit playing for Sutter, it won't take long to show.

IMO, the ****show that was last season's off-ice events might still be eating at the team's collective psyche. They're putting in effort and not finishing, sure, but they just don't seem to have that certain vibe. At least not like the 2012 or 2014 teams did.

Let's not forget that both the 2012 and 2014 teams had horrible stretches during the season as well. I remember one particular stretch in 2012 which included consecutive 1-0 losses at home and much more booing that was heard on Wednesday night.

It's pretty early yet to pick up on any vibe yet, really.

it did seem like they couldnt finish on sooooo many chances. what's up with that?

but if these guys have quit playing for Sutter, it won't take long to show.

never thought of that. but he doesn't seem like the most "inspiring" of coaches in some ways. hard to say what he's like in the locker room though.

maybe some nerves. he'll learn from it. he was good along the boards at other times.

and just wasn't on the best line to showcase his upside. even 3rd line would be better. sheng peng posted minutes on lines for toffoli when he was brought up as a rookie, and he was on mainly top lines so he was able to concentrate on offence/creating chances:

In 12-13, in 102 5v5 mins, Toffoli spent 70 w/ Richards, 55 w/ Carter...just 13 w/ Nolan and 7 w/ Fraser
.

that matters, letting players play to their strengths. andreoff is better on the 4th line if they want to keep it as an enforcer type line. or if they wanna keep weal on the 4th, weal should be in face-off circle ideally. shore and weal are both good centres.

Yeah, but there was something different about last year's team. Barring the disappearance of our "top dogs" and Calgary being a pest, something was off. They just didn't seem like they were actually going to dig themselves out of that mess. I might be reading into it a little too much, but my point stands.

is it me, or does Sutter look completely clueless out there?

do you think he lost the room?

The problem is he knows just one single way to play hockey.
If the opponents can counter it he is running out of answers.
Same with Murray before him.

Actually they have another thing in common.
He is doing to Kopitars and Browns careers what Murray did to Frolovs.

The sad thing is that it is covered by the head office who have the same strange vision of hockey.

Beside that there is the fact the players are tired of this ridiculous hockey system. Especially the skilled ones.
You can directly see that Kopitar doesn't care and that he is just doing what people ask him to do. Nothing more.

Just wait until our youngster are fed up too after the first glamour of the NHL life fades.

we had an interesting debate today on a slovenian hockey forum, about lak's future + about kopi's future in lak, with ex hockey players, coaches & hardcore fans (kind of similar as here i guess). bottomline: kopi should leave lak. why? bcs the lak ship is sinking. this is the public sentiment here.

the criticism against lak is very specific and similar as you'll find it here: sutter is an open book, lombardi is an emotional wreck, the team lost their best grinders, the new players have trouble finding their role, the team lost the identity... but kopi still has the potential to win something with another team.

i'm sticking with lak & i wish kopi signs but i smell the gass leaking as well. just start winning please.

Just allowed 9 goals in first two games (the second game being against a weak opponent)...
Yeah, I don't like the defense one bit.

McNabb looked good on the first pairing!!!

This is the same team that struggled against Calgary, and shot 3% for an extended period of time. This is nothing new. Box out, keep Kings shooting from the perimeter and capitalize when the Kings make a mistake. With the number of new/inexperienced guys and Muzzin , there'll be plenty of opportunities for opponents.

One way of doing it would be to ask for and stick to $10.5M and forcing Lombardi into a trading him. It would allow Kopitar to "escape" without coming out and saying trade me. Don't think he wants to be that guy.
