You haven't seen Kundun.

If this doesn't make you giddy, you have no soul:

I have no soul then. Also the whole women only parade was so dumb. Iron Man's wife is never seen having a suit ever, but here she is fighting like she's been doing it for 10 movies now. Oh and she needs to escort Captain Marvell who is so OP she can literally fly through space ships, but let's have her face off 1v1 against Thanos instead of just flying through him and ending the movie 20 minutes earlier.

Oof, you must be fun at parties.

I can and do agree with the criticism of the scene, but for me the Avengers have always been pop-corn stuff. Raiders of the Lost Ark for the current kids, as such it is really easy for me to just disengage my brain and go with it for the most part and still have an enjoyable experience. I actually prefer Marvel to DC because for me it is escapism. I'd rather it be happy and colorful like the memories of my childhood Avengers rather than all dark and dreary like whatever the hell DC is doing.

Agreed. Nobody is arguing that the MCU is high art or anything, but they're reliably fun, exciting spectacles. I'd argue Disney is oversaturating the market a little bit with all these shows, but as a genre it's a ripe medium for all kinds of cool fantasy stories.

So it looks like retirement or semi-retirement is in my near future and one of the things I thought of doing after that happens would be to see the Avs play in the opponent's arena. Not saying I'm going to go to each arena this year. But, what are some of the more fun cities/arenas that you'd recommend that I looking to pop in and see and why?

My buddy that lives in Seattle is retiring in January so I'm planning on going to see the Avs play the Kraken then.

First off, congrats!!

So there are some places that are both fun around the around the arena and in the arena… some arenas are fun but the cities are meh. Winnipeg is one of the more fun arenas, but the area and city are meh. Nashville is an incredible city and a ton of fun… arena is meh and environment inside is full on cringe. Vegas is much the same (but respect the passion), but arena is amazing. Columbus… surprisingly great all around. The district around the arena is killer and it is a cool environment. Toronto and Montreal are easy top of the list places. Tampa, Detroit, MSG, and Boston are all go tos. Great environments and great cities. I haven’t been to Seattle or Long Island this year… so hard to say, but hear good things.

NHL arenas I've seen games in are Columbus, Arizona, Carolina (both in Greensboro as well as Raleigh), Boston and Hartford. Boston and Columbus had the best atmospheres. Raleigh was fun, Gilla River is actually a nice stadium with great sight lines...just awful attendance and team, Greensboro sucked but I got to see Forsberg, Sakic, Roy, Foote, Duke and Tangs...so whatever.

Montreal and Denver are on my bucket list. I've heard incredible things about the hot-dogs in Montreal. And well, Denver is a no-brainer...trying to arrange travel for me (from Alaska) and my dad (from Ohio) this season when Detroit (he was born in raised and is naturally a die-hard fan) comes to Denver. I believe it's in mid-January. Still trying to determine if we should come in early and watch Ottawa on Saturday prior to the Wings on Monday.

Montreal is incredible to watch a game at. Just be prepared for frigid temps.

I’ve been to quite a few stadiums. I’d say Madison Square Garden was actually my least favorite and Montreal was my top favorite (by a mile).

My wife and I have a long-term goal of seeing the Avs in every away arena at some point in our lives. So far we’ve done San Jose, Raleigh, Vegas, and Phoenix. Of those, Raleigh was easily the best, but I’d recommend spending time in a different city in Carolina and then driving to Raleigh for the game at night. Somewhere like Asheville or Boone could be cool. We stayed in South Carolina before driving up for the game, but that’s a decent drive and it’s probably not worth staying in South Carolina unless you’ll be there for a week or so.

The fans in Carolina are really chill, too. The atmosphere itself isn’t great, but at least I wasn’t threatened by the home fans multiple times like I was in San Jose :help:. There’s also nothing to do in San Jose proper. Like Hench said, Vegas is Vegas, but the atmosphere is kind of cringe. It was cool being there for their inaugural season, but it’s different now. There’s really nothing of note to say about Phoenix, except it’ll be Tempe from here on out and it could be cool seeing a NHL game in a college arena if only for the novelty of it.

Episode 7 was good, but short of great. 8 and 9 were a hot mess... Mary Poppins showing up in 8 was just so so bad.

Frankly all Star Wars movies are propped up by Empire. Empire is so good it elevated the whole original trilogy past what should have really been expected. It is legit great movie where the others are just good popcorn movies. It created an unreachable expectation for the whole series.

The series took a big hit when Joseph Campbell died.

Yeah, I have a friend in Phoenix. She said it’s too bad I couldn’t come to her party there this weekend. I was like, thanks but I will wait for winter there first. Too hot now.

Don't bother coming to Edmonton lol the Avs seemingly only show up when there's 5 feet of snow on the ground and it's -30.
I actually thought of doing like a Canada trip to Edmonton and Calgary to see the Avs play and then try to combine it with going to see the aurora borealis. Maybe do that with the Peg instead.

Can't wait to read @flyfysher's NHL City Review Book featuring articles on what to do in the area, where to eat, where to stay, where not to go *wink, wink* after the games.

Actually...has anyone written a book like that? Would be a fun read.

I haven't done much traveling in my life, but I have been to California a lot to visit my grandparents. Of the 3 Californian cites I've been to (LA, San Francisco and Anaheim) the only good one, was Anaheim. I'd avoid LA and San Fran like the plague. Just accept the long drive to Crypto.com arena (God that name is terrible) and drive back down to Anaheim and stay there.

Also, NEVER use LAX airport. Just fly into and out of John Wayne airport.

I live in LA and can echo this. LAX is hell on earth.

Anacrime?

I've been to Detroit twice. It was just filthy and miserable both times. If I have my way I'll never go back.

LAX is seriously the worst airport ever.

When did you go? The last ~4-5 years there has been huge awakening. Also depends on the areas you're around too... Corktown, Greektown, and Midtown are all sweet. But stay away from Franklin Park, Warrendale, Belmont, Greensbriar.... so many others.
