I stopped watching Marvel stuff after Endgame. That was the climax of their story and they needed to let it breathe. Instead they started immediately launching TV shows and movies to kick off their next phase of superhero movies. I had superhero movie fatigue so I lost interest at that point and I can't get into it now. There's no way in hell that I'm watching 20 some odd TV shows and movies just to fully understand what's going on with the overall plot. They have NINE different films/shows planned for 2023 alone! Like seriously, chill.
I've watched a few things and here and there since Endgame but have liked none of them, other than Spider Man. I have not yet seen Thor: Love and Thunder. I think for me was that I was aware of comic book heroes as a kid and saw them on cartoons occasionally, it was always Thor, Spidey, Ironman, Hulk you know...the Avengers. Once their story ended, so did the majority of my interest. Since Endgame, from what I've watched here and there, I have found the lack of good story telling, bad acting and over-reliance on CGI (style over substance) to become too much too make it worth continuing to invest time in. I will watch Thor when it hits Disney+ though.

Endgame was definitely the high water mark of the MCU. Everything after has been enjoyable, but it feels like there's no direction to phase 4, it's just a bunch of good but ultimately disconnected films and TV shows, I miss the overarching plot that bound phases 1-3 together. Maybe phase 5 will fix it, but the novelty is wearing off despite the films being generally fun times.

I feel the same way. Now that the stories I grew up with (Peter Parker, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner) are pretty much over, the nostalgia isn't hitting me with the new films and I just don't care anymore.

God there is no movie genre I hate more than comic book movies. You know EXACTLY what's going to happen and how it's going to end. What is so intriguing about them? I'll never understand.
I actually saw one of those Marvel multiverse things the other day which intrigued me

I don't know what would have to happen for me to think "you know what, I'll watch this Marvel TV series".

But get this too, I've seen all the Star Wars movies up until episode 7, I streamed Rogue One, I've seen the Mandalorian, I've seen Obi-Wan, I'm thinking about starting The Book of Boba Fett... But I completely skipped 8, 9, and Solo. Those ones didn't happen.

I personally loved Solo and Rogue One. Obi-Wan and The Book of Boba Fett were mehh.

I read this as take a bump and immediately thought… f yeah he could.

I mean...

I liked that Obi-Wan was short. It started very slow but I liked it by the end.

Rogue One was cool I thought, but I don't remember anything about the plot.

Solo, I don't know. I'm honestly not that into Han Solo. He's a Fonzie. I like the prequels...

You aren't alone. They don't make many good movies anymore and I think the last movie I walked out of mesmerized was The Departed in 2006. They stopped even making original movies by 2010 or so.

Rouge One is probably the best Star Wars movie outside the original trilogy... I'd argue it is even better than the mess that was Return of the Jedi.

Speaking of movies though... Nope was certainly not what I expected (went in blind on purpose), but was still a nice popcorn movie.

Revenge of the Sith is the best Star Wars movie, and you can't change my mind.

Psst... It's because I was ten when RotS came out.

RotS is the best of the prequels by far, but that's a low bar. Lucas badly needed a co-writer/collaborator on those movies. I can definitely see what he was trying to do with his vision, but the movies were such a mess, I haven't actually sat down and watched them in years.

I remember liking episodes 7 & 8, but episode 9 was such a mess it somehow managed to invalidate a lot of the good things I liked about the first two sequels, especially TLJ, which I felt like they just tried to ignore and retcon their way around. The sequels would have benefited a lot from giving the entire trilogy to one director with one vision. Either Johnson or Abrams alone would have created a better product alone than the Frankenstein's monster they ended up with where nobody involved knew how it would end.

Episode 7 was good, but short of great. 8 and 9 were a hot mess... Mary Poppins showing up in 8 was just so so bad.

Frankly all Star Wars movies are propped up by Empire. Empire is so good it elevated the whole original trilogy past what should have really been expected. It is legit great movie where the others are just good popcorn movies. It created an unreachable expectation for the whole series.

My 2 kids both love star wars, so I've watched them all with them. All the movies and all the cartoons.

Honestly, the prequels >>> sequels, AINEC. The cartoons are better than any of them though. But it's all for kids. Same with Marvel.

The original trilogy came out when there were no good sci-fi adventures with good special effects. These days even low budget Sci-fi Network shows can have decent special effects.

It will never have the cultural impact it once had, especially now with Disney running things. They aren't worried about over saturating the market with things.

I did enjoy The Mandalorian though, even though it was just Clint Eastwoods man with no name set in in the Star Wars universe. Extra points for having Werner Herzog as an empire villain when Herzog hasn't even seen a Star Wars movie.

Departed is one of the GOATs.

I really enjoyed Tenet and Top Gun: Maverick in the IMAX, but didn't enjoy Tenet as much seeing it at home, really a theater movie. I do love Nolan for trying to do new things though.

Scorsese could take a dump better than anything Marvel/DC.
Bah, Scorsese has had his share of cinematic dumps himself. He’s a fantastic filmmaker but by no means is he perfect.

Personally I like most of the Marvel movies, with a few notable exceptions. DC has mostly been underwhelming to me, with a few notable exceptions.

The second best one is The Phantom Menace. It has Darth Maul, Naboo Starfighters, and the Trade Federation army which is secretly really cool. It also has a great score, introducing Duel of the Fates and the Droid March theme which kicks ass.

Of course, Gungans suck ass, the plot is bad and the movie is bad, but it's not, though.

This me after this kid said RotS is bad:

I've been searching but unable to find it. There used to be another .gif of this scene where some dude at the end photoshops in all of the kids' lightsabers igniting as if they were going to fight back. It was pretty awesome.
