Speculation: The Athletic-“So, it’s easy to imagine a scenario in which the Ducks move on from Zegras..."

Flames will likely have multiple firsts and a new stash of prospects.

Sort of makes sense on their end to go deep on Zegras.
Ducks needs in a Zegras trade are better offensive forward (doesn't have to play C) and defensive RD who can play with Mintyukov. Dealing Zegras for picks just delays rebuilding, we don't want to keep losing for a decade. Verbeek will want to make playoffs in the next couple years.

"my team has lots of draft picks, we should be in the mix" - ignoring the fact that it makes absolutely zero sense for the Ducks to trade a 22 year old for draft picks.
And the minor fact that the Ducks have made no, zero, nada, indication that they are even considering trading him.

Kind of surprising that given how much he obviously sucks big time (rolls eyes) that nobody has offered a 7th & future considerations for him...

/granted, there was no indication that Drysdale was going to be traded (other than the upcoming logjam at D meaning 'someone' had to go - not the same situation with the forward crew)

(btw, good choice on which Ducks game to go to last week. Man that was a mostly ugly trip north of the border)

With Drysdale, I don't think the team was necessarily looking to trade him, but the right deal came along for a young player that filled a need, and Drysdale was expendable due to the prospect depth on defense. I don't see a similar trade happening for Z. The Ducks need Z too much to give him up, it just doesn't make sense.

Other than not comitting to him for 8 years, and head-butting on contract extension at the expense of his presence at training camp ? Yeah, no other indication, zero, nada !

This would be based more on his potential earnings I would think over not wanting to be in Anaheim. Also seems way overblown. Happens all the time where players miss parts of camp.

Did you hear most insiders talk about it ?
So I guess not...
Most didn’t. Just Dreger and Frank two that are desperate for clicks. None of the big dogs brought it up.

There was never any indication that Zegras' camp was looking for 8 years. They wanted to be paid like an 8-year deal with shorter term based on projected salary cap growth. There was never any mention about if a 8-year deal from the Ducks side so we can only guess what they might have offered if anything. They offered a short term deal in the low 4's and negotiated 3 year/5.75M per.

From the outside it looked like the Team Zegras strategy was to maximize your dollars and minimize your term so you get multiple kicks at the can throughout your career as the salary cap rises. Can't fault the player for trying but obviously the Ducks disagreed and the Ducks still had player control. It was Zegras who chose not to come to training camp until the end.

Do you know the details of the contract negotiations? No, neither does anyone but those involved as very little was talked about back then. It could have been that the Ducks 'did' want to commit to him long term, but he wanted more money. Or 'he' could have wanted the term but the Ducks weren't offering enough (in either term or money). Or PV could only have offered a short term, 'prove it' contract. Or Z could have demanded a short term 'I'll show you...' contract. The only thing we as outsiders know is what was finally agreed to. So yeah, zero & nada.

People just enjoy talking down on a player they want.. the fans bashing zegras the most, also have a 16 page thread about zegras on their sub forum(not to mention the trade thread being constantly about zegras)
Lol omg I thought you were kidding but I found it, it's like when the dateline special finds some stalker had a secret shrine in their bedroom dedicated to someone who wants nothing to do with them.

Exactly, nobody knows, but it can be interpreted as an indication... Not a confirmed truth, but an indication.

I know you are joking but reading some of that Montreal thread, that’s an improvement.
It's all about the crow man. They don't want to trade anything of value for X player, no matter how talented. When they do and they get proven wrong, it's "I'm eating crow". It's the easy way out. Same thing happened with Slaf. He was a bust last year by all accounts, but this year it's the "crow" bullshit line...and I'm a Habs fan lol.

16 page thread on our board for a guy nobody expects us to really get or be in on is crazy.
We sure love hockey over here

Lol pretty much…. It’s unfortunate some would rather blindly hate on him than actually admit he has talent.

Ya I don’t mind not wanting to pay for a guy , as the reality is zegras will prob cost a bit to pry from Anaheim.

But not wanting to pay the price and acting like he’s a no talent walking gimmick gets old.

Not aimed at you, just general statement
