Speculation: The Athletic-“So, it’s easy to imagine a scenario in which the Ducks move on from Zegras..."

The only important question is: If Zegras is so good, why does Anaheim want to trade him when he's only 22?
This thread has been open for slightly over a month. In the second post I pointed out that the speculation was just that, speculation. 500+ posts later and nothing has changed. There has 'never' been any indication from the Ducks (or even any reliable rumors from someone in the organization) that they have any interest in moving him. None. The 'only' speculation is coming from those who have a vested interest in creating rumors and getting clicks/eyeballs on their content. Pretty much every Ducks fan here says exactly the same. There has been NO indication that the team wants to move on. Some have played along with the 'what if' game, but that's all that is, internet chatting.

The only reason I can see that the Ducks would trade him is if they could get someone almost exactly like him but 2-3" taller & 20-30# heavier (the PV special), or for a similarly talented RHD. And if a team is willing to give up such a player for Z ... why would they in the first place? I can't imagine him being traded for a bunch of, admittedly high level, picks or potentially very good young players. They don't need those, they need a healthy Z or potentially someone just like him.

Imo Zegras is moved this summer. The return will be okay but not a lot. Likely for another younger guy who struggle defensively. Or for a late first to a good club that thinks they can fix Zegras’s game.

Lol how clueless can you be. Please explain to me the upside of moving Zegras, a 22 year old with a 61 and 65 point season in the NHL, for a late round pick? To save cap?

Zegras is overrated because of the Michigan move. Without that he is just an average player.
This take is so damn tired. If he's such an average player, why are we now 21 pages into a thread speculating that he'll be traded? The only "average" part of this whole scenario is the elementary analysis of people who don't watch Zegras play on a regular basis.

Lucky for them the injuries have kept them from looking foolish. It used to be called flair, and most people liked it. A show of confidence in your skills. If he was 6'3 225 lbs, whooped ass, and threw a few michigans in every year, they'd LOVE IT. To me it just boils down to people don't like his demeanor. His puck skills/IQ/hands are indisputable.

Glad to hear it. Literally zero interest at all. No pick outside #1 this year is worth more then Z to the Ducks.

Would you take the Ducks 1st for Caufield? Why would you expect the Ducks to do a similar deal for Zegras?
Caufield signed a long term deal unlike Zegras. Zegras bridge contract is a bad look. Being voted most overrated player by his peers doesn't look good either. He will probably stay in Anaheim I agree but your GM doesn't seem totally sold on him as some Ducks fans here.

Not being sold on someone is not the same as being willing to sell him on the cheap.

I wouldn't trade Caufield for the Duck's first or Zegras.

Zeggy Zeg would fetch like 3 1st rounders. NHL is a business. Zegras is a name that sells. He's not as marketable as McDavid but more than MacKinnon for sure. That guy's dull as heck.
As much as I am a fan of Zegras, I don't think this is accurate. Mack may be a dull personality, but his play style is very exciting.

Yeah 60 points is the league average. Totally.

Bold 1: yeah cause a bunch of players being butthurt over a video game cover and extra media attention is the be all, end all.

Bold 2: based on what exactly? A few rumor grifters who blast farts on Twitter and say it's smoke? Or the fact that our GM did his job and negotiated a hardball reduction to save his company cap dollars? If that's your evidence to suggest Verbeek thinks Zegras isn't a high value asset, it's pretty weak sauce.

Late first, lmao the sheer delusion. Zegras hasn't hit 90+ points yet and some of you act like he's a marginal second liner.

lets just ignore that the player poll only had 101 players, and Zegras only had 13% of the votes; and one of the actual reasoning was just that he got on the cover of the NHL game lol. ignoring context to push a narrative is very cool!

also I didn't realize a GM signing players to a bridge deal automatically means they don't want them on the team lol

Just to put things in perspective, 13 out of 101 anonymous NHL players felt he’s most overrated. That’s not really as telling as you want it to be. Assuming 32 teams of 23 players (which is low due to IR), that’s 1.8% of the league. Woohoo.

It's true. I've also learned that calling their player (some legitimately) small makes posters angry. I do have theories on who, but I'll just leave that out.
