Disco Elysium - odd as shit, but very enjoyable. Tempted to play again with different approach but I'm not sure of it's replay-ability though.
Bailed on this after a few hours. Just couldn't get into it.

I did the same, played other stuff for the best part of a year then circled back to it and it was pretty decent. The main obstacle is all the reading.Bailed on this after a few hours. Just couldn't get into it.

This is about as far of a departure from turn based as you can get though so if the others haven't really been your cup of tea, this most certainly won't be.
Combat is tougher to pick up on here then it was in either FF15 or FF7R. I have played a decent amount of action RPGs so it wasn't that much of a struggle for me but if you haven't really delved into the genre its going to be a decent learning curve (nothing that you or anyone else couldn't figure out within a few hours though. I picked up on FF7R's combat system really quickly and really enjoyed it. FF16's combat gives you way more to work with once you start opening up the skill tree.
I felt like FF7Rs combat was way more forgiving. Parry timing in 16 is legitimately tough until you unlock a certain ability later in the game and enemies can really f*** you up if you aren't careful. I wouldn't call the game hard (it certainly isn't a FromSoft game), but it isn't a cake walk.
I got through all of FF15 and FF7R with out hitting a single game over (well, at least until hard mode in FF7R, f***ing hell house) where as I took a few L's in FF16 (Only one on a boss who had a move I wasn't prepared for that just ate my life bar. The others were doing hunts that were way above my level.) Phoenix downs are not a thing in ff16 so once your HP hits 0, you're done.
Finally finished the main quest line for TOTK. I’m going to go back to Elden Ring that way maybe I’ll be decent by the time the DLC comes out.
Just finished ToTK, found the ending to be very satisfying. Now on to FF 16! Probably will start that next week, after I go on my TMNT binge watching this weekend, lol.
Tremendously disappointingly, they announced the Red Dead Redemption (1) re-release today - but it's merely for PS4 and Switch. No PC version (at least not yet, no word on whether it's coming in the future) and it's basically just a port.
Wow, so, so disappointing. There was a ton of hope that RDR1 was being remade in the RDR2 world and engine and that they'd be adding Mexico and bringing the game to PC. It's a shame that that seems like it's not ever in the cards. Or even a proper remaster and release on PC.
They’re not fantasy but they are single player. Ghost of Tsushima, both Horizon games and the last of us part 2 are all solid and free/cheap if you have the game pass.I just swapped my Xbox for a PS5 because I want to play FF16.
I am a fan of: All FF (minus 13, but specially 14), Assassin’s Creed, God of War (only the new ones) and really genuinely enjoyed the Hogwarts game and Elden Ring but I am REALLY bad at the Soulslike games.
Anyone have any game suggestions beyond FF16? I’m thinking Baldur’s Gate 3 would be next. Generally, I’m very much only interested in single player fantasy/historical based (like AC, Uncharted, etc) whether it’s difficult like a Souls game or carefree like Hogwarts.

I didn't get terribly far in it, maybe a couple dozen hours, but Pillars of Eternity was a pretty interesting game. Never played 2, but that was released in 2018 and is on PS5. Skyrim. No Man's Sky (personal favorite, super fun game if you like languages/space exploration/aliens). Subnautica. Hyperlight Drifter (the sequel Hyperlight Breaker should be coming out in a few months). The Witcher.I just swapped my Xbox for a PS5 because I want to play FF16.

I’m just about at the home stretch with the game and this was what I finally came to realize myself.Just started FFXVI
I’m loving it - even though it isn’t open world and has a very frenetic combat style, overall it also reminds me of a completely single player version of FFXIV, which I’ve been addicted to forever (just waiting for the next expansion now). It’s like a more linear version of XIV for me. Like if you mostly only followed the MSQ and were able to fast travel instead of traversing open world. But the way the individual areas are set up, the writing, the overall feel of the game reminds of XIV.

Story has been great so far, battle play looked a little confusing at first but got used to it. Need to use more strategy for the bigger opponents.
I am about 8 hours into the game and my only issue , not enough side quests. Hopefully as the game progresses there is more. Final Fantasy has always been about its side quests and not just the main story.
The hunts were the best from previous games.
We’re probably at similar spots. I may be a few hours farther than you.
