Hi there.

I'm new here.....refugee from the 'old' Banter community who has zero appetite for Patreon fees.

I'm 45 and have been away from gaming for about decade. But I'm an industry 'veteran' - I've had just about every gaming console system from the 2600 and Intellivision boxes (even a NeoGeo) right up through the current generation plus more PCs than I can shake a stick at. Presently working with a couple i7 Core machines for work/play.

I purchased a 360 and PS5 a couple weeks ago and only own 2 games so far - 'MLB The Show '24' for PS5 and Doom Eternal for the 360. The Doom series is right in my (old ass) wheelhouse as an 'point and shoot' FPS and I have to say I love it. I'm probably late to party here but I needed an intro!

Well that makes sense because one is made my a great studio and the other is made by … Bethesda
Sad but true. They can't even provide a gameplay trailer for the game where it runs at a stable fps. Even sadder is that i'm still gonna pre order it for early access because i'm an idiot. Worst case scenario i'll get a few laughs at the bugs, best case i'll already have it when the modders fix the game for Bethesda.

Solid first post, now hop into the Roster building thread and let us know your opinions on Laf's BMI to commence initiation!

Kidding of course, welcome. Doom rules but I was too chicken to play as a kid and too slow and uncoordinated to play Eternal =/

Earlier in the week, reviewers with copies noted at least 20 hours without a bug. I watched the first 40 minutes of the game in a spoiler video last night that's since been taken down. There is absolutely no Bethesda jank whatsoever and most surprising was that 3rd person looks great. The game is supposed to be 30 FPS but whatever they implemented in the engine makes it look 60 (Great motion blur I believe). I think we'll start seeing performance mods on consoles within weeks after Bethesda opens the game for modding. Watching that video spoiled nothing and only hyped me beyond words. Early access release SOOOOON.

Laffy ain’t fat. He’s just not the most agile skater out there. Believe me I’d rather have Kaprizov but what can you do.

I think we should find a way to just getting he and KK 18 minutes plus per game, all 2nd line situations because that’s the only way anybody is gonna know what they’re capable of.

We have a winger log jam on the roster that’s really the product of Gorton’s signing decisions. I’m pretty sure Drury would love to have Trouba’s cap charge available as well as Kreider’s and/or Bread’s. He’s on the hook for Shesty, Mika and Goodrow but he sort of came into a deal where he was fairly well constrained and voila you get the Buch trade.

If we are not going to commit to simply giving playing time to our high end picks instead of this ’having to earn it’ nonsense we’re not gonna learn anything and should probably trade them and roll with the creaky vets. It’s Drury’s partial mandate anyway because Dolan loves him some ‘stars’; at MSG the Show Must Always go On.

Idk, maybe it's the D&D setting itself? I haven't found it to be corny at all but maybe i'm just used to this fantasy setting? Not really sure what else it could be.

It's basically just a massive D&D tabletop campaign where the devs are the Dungeon Master and the game is made to replicate the vast amount of choices one might make while playing. Some choices are just silly I guess. Maybe that in and of itself lends to some moments feeling lighthearted or corny as opposed to a set story. I mean, depending on you or your companions class you can literally cast a spell that lets you talk to any animal you see running around throughout the game. Some people might find talking to a random bird about how his nest looks stupid but to some people (me), that type of detail is the good stuff!

I can see how this type of game might not be for everyone though. Especially the combat. It's... ALOT to take in. A lot of Tooltip reading and Wiki Googling, but clearing my first goblin camp was a rush. Super satisfying.
Interestingly enough, I really liked Divinity 2, Larian’s last game.

I just couldn’t get into this. I wanted to but…. It was just cringe to me.

FF16 is the bomb! I have not gotten to fire in the sky yet but am close.

The hunts and side quests have been so much better now.

Positive you’re farther than me now since I’ve been in Poland for 2 weeks, but I’m eager to pick the story back up as I’m pretty sure I’m still in the first 25%.

Also reallllly eager to pick up Baldur’s Gate once I’ve finished. That’s my type of 200 hour commitment that will keep me happy for a year since I get about 3-8 hours per week to game. And I’ve still not played Ragnarok but as one of the resident Norse nerds, it’s a must.

Yeah I just finish the “Fire in the Sky” chapter. It didn’t disappoint. Was beyond epic.

What’s cool about this game you can actually replay chapters with your current gear and levels, and able to rack up ability points.

Leave it to me to turn a 50-60 hour game into a 100 hour game lol

I'm finally going to be starting TotK this Wednesday en route to Portugal.

Afraid of what I'm about to get myself into.

If you loved BoTW going to love ToTK , it’s BoTW on steroids.

Just a heads up, gonna take you a long time if you do most of the side quests and adventures. But worth it!

Starfield kinda sucks. I got early access and have been playing for days.

It’s claustrophobic. There really feels like there is no openness. Everything is in the narrow confines of a spaceship or metal-walled outpost on a hostile planet. It all looks the same: metallic and sterile.

All the travel is basically fast traveling to the next interior. The mini sandboxes that they plop you down into on an unexplored world are procedurally generated wastelands of boredom with nothing of interest in between dungeons.

The gunplay is ok. Far from great or game-carrying.

I think Bethesda forgot what makes their games good and made a game with everything that they do poorly.

And can they bog it down with any more annoying systems that are just a pain? Lockpocking is intolerable. Did someone tell them that gamers want to spend 10 minutes trying to pick open medium-level chests?

The persuasion system is senseless. The encumbrance system is oppressive and it takes forever to navigate through the menus and shuffle items back and forth.

Everything is dated or doesn’t work in modern games.

Started playing Starfield… so far its meh.

Only a couple hours in but i feel like there is a ton of stuff but literally none is really explained well to you.

Definitely not as good as fallout or elser scrolls yet.

I’m skipping Starfield. Reviews have been meh and I’m not as big on space fantasy as medieval fantasy.

About half way through FF16. It’s wonderfully done, but it does get a bit boring because of how linear it is… there’s no real “explore, find weapons, materia, side quests” aspect which is what made games like FF7 so good.

I’m gonna play Baldur’s Gate after and anticipating that could take me a full year to really explore, based on reviews. Still have some games I want to catch up on - never played God of War Ragnarok, and I love the Norse setting from the previous game. Looking forward to AC: Mirage as well. And FFXIV continues to pull me back. They announced the new expansion for next year and I reactivated my account but started an alt to go through all the content again. About 20% through Heavensward and this game just really doesn’t disappoint.

You know what game I really liked that I played this year? Chained Echoes. Turn based JRPG style game.

Ive read that baldurs gate naked mode is funny as hell.

I used to play the game way back on pc.

Starfield i feel just needs a couple patches. Hopefully they work on fixing some of the things that are annoying

Any Age of Empires fans in here?

I have been completely consumed by AoE4. I think it's an incredible game. I enjoy it a lot more than 2 because of the more variable civs and win conditions and small touches.

A big expansion is set to release sometime in the fall with Japan as the first new Civ introduced.

Every now and again i'll go back and play AoE2 but i'm trash so never online. Mostly just zen out and destroy the AI. Meant to check out AoE4 but just never got around to it. Installed through Gamepass, just keeps getting buried in backlog though.

Anyone try Armored Core 6 yet? I'm a gigantic fan of gigantic robots so it looks right up my alley from the get-go. Little scared that it's a FROM game though.
