im currently in East Rosaria, Clive just got his new clothes and sword , looks bad ass now, lol. Reminds me a little of Squall from FF 8

I’m not too much ahead of you, but probably a solid 2-3 hours. I also slowed down to jump on whatever side quests I could. But generally not many story beats ahead of you.

Tremendously disappointingly, they announced the Red Dead Redemption (1) re-release today - but it's merely for PS4 and Switch. No PC version (at least not yet, no word on whether it's coming in the future) and it's basically just a port.

Wow, so, so disappointing. There was a ton of hope that RDR1 was being remade in the RDR2 world and engine and that they'd be adding Mexico and bringing the game to PC. It's a shame that that seems like it's not ever in the cards. Or even a proper remaster and release on PC.

Might be in a minority here but I found RDR1 immensely more enjoyable than RDR2. Have replayed it a few timex to 100% completion. When I finished 2 i put it away and haven’t touched it since.

My goal is to pace myself to September. I usually play 2-3 hours a day.

I finished Zelda, ToTK, I logged about 130 hours with that one, . I don’t see FF16 being that long, maybe 75 hours with all the side quests?

Here’s the thing about FF16 that is killing me so far…

Story is good, graphics are phenomenal, combat is more button mashy than I’d like, but fun, and generally speaking it hits all the final fantasy notes with a great soundtrack, stunning cutscenes and eikons, etc.

But why’d they have to make Cid so f***ing cool that I don’t want to be Clive?

Clive will out cool Cid in time.

So Makar is the cover. not a bad choice.

Also i just realized that Crosby was never on the cover yet. Kind of shocked. Especialy since Ovi and Matthews have been cover 2x each.

Doesn't look like he wants to, which makes sense because he definitely would have been on it at some point.

Although it's not official, there's long been a credible rumor Crosby has declined to be on the cover of EA Sports' NHL. Crosby doesn't seek attention and has a very private personal life, so it makes sense why he's turned down EA Sports. He's also very superstitious, so that could play into it as well.

Makar? Pfffffff. I guess a couple of others said no to being on the cover before them coming to Makar, as he was not even a Top 5 player in the league this past season.

I expected Jack Hughes before Makar.

Finally finished FF16. 3/10. Absolutely hated it, lmao. My own fault for continuing to play it, I need to learn when to cut bait on games i'm not enjoying.

Oh well, stoked to start BG3. Only have about 100 or so hours of that game to finish before Starfield!

nothing you don't already know but Half-Life 2 is truly a gaming marvel, even 20 years later.

having so much fun replaying it for the first time since high school

No re-work to 60fps eliminated this for me.

I´m 3-4 hours in. Not impressed so far. Reminds me alot about Outriders, which I think so far is a better game :) Never played the first Remnant game so I didnt know what to expect :)
Expect controller throwing moments if it's just as hard as the first one.

Outriders was fun until you finished the hardest content without the need to even grind for the gear you were trying to get. I didn't play the new DLC, but prior to that the game just didn't have enough. I also went back to Division for my looter shooters. Division 2 is in a pretty good spot right now but not as enjoyable solo.

FF 16 is getting better and better with each chapter/mission.

there is Moogle with hunts, Kupo! Feels like FF 12, which I loved that game
I’m scared to read the spoiler if i didnt get up to it yet haha. I’m just about 2/3 the way done, been pretty busy but the wife is going away labor day weekend so i plan on finishing it up then! So far it’s been probably my favorite game in years (though i dont play many games anymore).

Not really a spoiler, but the “fire in the sky” chapter of ff16 is the high point of the game.

If/when you get there, buckle up.
Absolutely. Unfortunately the remainder of the game can’t measure up to that climax but holy shit what an amazing sequence , my eyes were popping out of my head .

In other news, anyone looking forward to Armored Core 6? I’m one of those casuals who never played any AC games but is a huge fan of Souls games so I’m definitely interested it.

Finally got to sit down and get started with Baldurs Gate 3 this weekend. Having a few performance issues and the load times are rough on my 5+ year old PC, but nothing too major. Despite that, it’s living up to the hype. Actually, it might be exceeding it which is crazy because I was pretty hyped. Still early, but I can see this being an all time favorite for me.

Haven’t had a game make me wanna rush home from work to play in a while. It’s all I’ve been thinking since I started playing… and that music is sooooo good.

Recently bought the Quake 1 remaster on Series S from Night Dive Studios. I am playing mouse and keyboard despite being on console.

I never actually played Quake when I was younger. I have been a much bigger fan of Doom throughout the years, both for the original 3 (Not Doom 3, but Doom, Doom 2 and Final Doom) as well as the masses of custom fan-made WADS. I think maybe the murky visuals and browns and greys of Quake turned me off versus the vibrant colors of Doom. And the fact that the original Doom's combat is just endlessly fun. If you have never played a custom WAD from great mappers like Skillsaw, Erik Alm, Ribbiks, Insane_Gazebo, Yugiboi, etc. I highly suggest it. You will laugh at how well Doom has aged cause of the fan community.

However, here I am. I have beaten episode 1 and on the second level of episode 2 on Nightmare. This game is a 10. I think it took all these years and the updated resolutions and visuals to realize it, but clearly I wasnt picking up what ID was putting down back then. This game was comically ahead of its time. The looks, the enemies, the level design, the visuals, the weapons. It feels so damn good to play. Even on the console with the mouse and keyboard. I am having a blast and I am very excited to play the 2 Machine Games expansions for it. They look great. Spring-boarding off this I am absolutely going to get the Quake 2 remake as well. I think it took a while for the technology to catch up with the vision ID had for these 2 games back then.

On a side note, I play mouse and keyboard on my Series S cause it has replaced my gaming PC at my desk. Takes up so little space, super quite, more energy efficient, and runs games so well. I only have a 1080p monitor and the 4k TV in the living room is for more narrative driven games, whereas this is more for shooters. Here to hoping mouse and keyboard support come to more ID and Night Dive games on console. They do such a good job.

I can’t wait to play it on PS5.

I started up Baldur's Gate on PC (Steam) and I just felt like it was so corny. I like fantasy games but this one just seemed.... stupid? I submitted it for refund.

Am I missing something?

Idk, maybe it's the D&D setting itself? I haven't found it to be corny at all but maybe i'm just used to this fantasy setting? Not really sure what else it could be.

It's basically just a massive D&D tabletop campaign where the devs are the Dungeon Master and the game is made to replicate the vast amount of choices one might make while playing. Some choices are just silly I guess. Maybe that in and of itself lends to some moments feeling lighthearted or corny as opposed to a set story. I mean, depending on you or your companions class you can literally cast a spell that lets you talk to any animal you see running around throughout the game. Some people might find talking to a random bird about how his nest looks stupid but to some people (me), that type of detail is the good stuff!

I can see how this type of game might not be for everyone though. Especially the combat. It's... ALOT to take in. A lot of Tooltip reading and Wiki Googling, but clearing my first goblin camp was a rush. Super satisfying.
