My buddy in Korea who learned English by listening to Beatles interviews. He did an album of folksy English rock, this song is pure class

Easin' in to this thread. I didn't even notice it existed before.

Spotify users who want to peer into the mind of an out-of-control music obsessive can find ridiculous library-sized "playlists" on my account: Rob Paxon

Here are a couple of songs that I got obsessed with over the years. Might be up the alley of some posters here.

And then this is a bit different but I love that the same singer can do such vastly different styles and do them well.

On the one hand he’s doing metal tracks like this:

On the other he’s doing blues. Me and That Man Are my home renovation soundtrack. Whenever I’m painting or doing anything else around the house, they go on:

I saw Behemoth at a small ass dive bar here. Great show, but there was probably less than 15 people there counting the band and bar staff . It was dirt cheap too. $18 for a ticket at the door.

How was the sound? If that was good then it was probably awesome being in a tiny venue.
I saw Fear Factory years ago in a tiny place, it was like a concrete bunker and I came out with a constant buzz in my ears from the damage.

It was just a wall of noise inside the venue. It was clearer outside of it. And seeing the venue was on the water/Canadian-US border, I’m sure the Americans thought they were under attack

I used to love going to small clubs to see the up and coming bands. The old Salty Dog was great for that, in it's heyday I saw Bon Jovi, Poison, Megadeth, Malice, Honeymoon Suite to name a few in that place

This venue is a really old 1800s built sandstone building. I saw Behemoth, Slick Shoes, No Use For a Name (this was over capacity, and it was so packed that there was no room to even have a mosh pit), and a secret show where Rush, The Tragically Hip and Our Lady Peace played (the latter two crossed on a Canadian tour here, and Rush were doing an anniversary show because they wrote “Tom Sawyer” here as an unscheduled stop). And many more bands I forget until I see a show flyer out in the wild (aka Facebook). The area was booming way back when it was built, and is one of only 3 buildings in that area still standing.

Unfortunately it’s now an area filled with methheads, and that venue had so many liquor violations that it’s not allowed to be a bar anymore. And it’s up for an insane amount and needs to be gutted and redone. The lack of parking doesn’t help either.

I miss the good old days when bands toured the small venues and you hoped you were going the next big thing. Man I miss the 80s
The universities also played a big role in supporting touring acts and giving them a venue back in the day. You could be a headliner playing the auditoriums or touring in a van and playing the student union stuff. Michael Hedges would be in the ballroom, Suicidal Tendencies in the underground, and Aerosmith would play in the arena. There used to always be something going on. Now, you can't even draw a Doom bot.

There was an interview with guitarist Robben Ford where he detailed his move to France - because there were so few jazz venues left in the states for working musicians to try to make a living. You literally have to go where the work is; in this case America no longer being the premiere destination for jazz cats.

I miss the old days as well.

To add, I never did the cruise ship union gigs or Disney/Amusement park stuff. I did however get involved in a few NCO club tours back when that was a thing. That's how you find yourself in Thule questioning your life choices with no escape. The AFB's were mostly a good time, mostly. They appreciated it if you weren't another top-40 band. Play some P-Funk/George Clinton and some Cameo, do some Zapp, drink for free.
