So much good music. I stopped listening for most of my 20s, now I’m trying to start appreciating some classics and acclaimed stuff. Prince, Bjork, Lingua Ignota. I like being all over the map, even enjoying rap that I used to avoid. Tyler the Creator is a madman, I love his shit.

It’s a bit cheesy at times, but “Enter Shikari” is a really eclectic group I enjoy. Their latest album is a bit shit, but they’ve got some banging protest sorta stuff in the middle of their discography. Oh, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard- holy f***, those dudes can play. “The Tap” is like freebird but not overplayed af.

King Gizz is my favorite newer band. I saw 'em twice last year (Rochester & DC). I hope they do a regular tour again soon. The residency tour they just did was a cool idea but I didn't feel like fighting for tickets and then going halfway around the country after having just seen 'em twice.

Some of my 30's was kinda like your 20's. I wasn't as active in discovering new new and new old music, which is really weird that ever happened considering how much I'm all about music. I guess I had enough music I was already familiar with, but still. I've kicked it back into overdrive the past few years.

Sun Ra is so good.

The last thursday of every month, Record Archive in Rochester has a Son House Blues Night currently hosted by Genesee Johnny. It's live blues music with Genesee Johnny and his band, plus a guest musician/act. Anyhow, the first time we went to that, there was a giveaway for tickets to see a nationally touring play about Son House which we won. It was really good. Love me some Son House, but I wasn't necessarily expecting the play to be as good as it was.

If you're into the delta guys, and haven't ever watched live tape of Bukka, do yourself a favor and check him out. He was gone before I got a chance to see him but whats on video shows what he was doing with his right hand and all that. And yeah what he was doing was pretty kickass.

I have to listen to more Ariel Pink. Probably heard about 10 songs so far and it's all good. Got a favorite album?
My favorite is probably the album this song is from, House Arrest. Before Today and The Doldrums are also impressive. His more recent stuff is a lot different so it's worth going through the ones I mentioned before checking out anything else.

Just curious cuz I think you said earlier in the thread Ariel Pink is your favorite all-time artist, what are some other favorites?

Edit: BTW i just listened through the Ariel Pink songs I've already heard (on Spotify, anyhow), and Revenge Of The Iceman slaps hard.

My other favorite artists? I'm really into the Korean shoegaze scene at the moment with bands like Parranoul and Della Zyr. My favorite shoegaze act altogether would be Candy Claws. on the more experimental side, I would say Deaths Dynamic Shroud and Death Grips. Maybe also throw Destroyer in there and Daughters as well. What about you?

I'm familiar with -- and like -- Death Grips, Destroyer, and Daughters. The Korean shoegaze bands I'm not familiar with tho i feel like I watched a short youtube documentary on the scene a few months ago. If we are talking favorite all-time bands, mine are pretty boring by their age. The Clash are #1 for sure. My last.fm, which goes back to 2006, has my most-played artists (not counting vinyl and various other things) as The Clash, The Kinks, The Pogues, Tom Waits, The Jam, The Fall, Rancid, Pixies, Joy Division, David Bowie as my top 10. Newer bands I've been into a lot are King Gizzard (as mentioned before), Viagra Boys (saw 'em in Toronto this winter), The Chats (seein' 'em in Toronto in a few months). If you click on my last.fm link you can see what I've been listening to the past couple months or year or whatever you specify.

I guess i would also add if someone asked me what my favorite bands were, among the dozens, I would think of some of the "proto-punk" bands I love a lot like The Stooges, Velvet Underground, MC5, and Rocket From The Tombs/Pere Ubu

Nice! I absolutely Love Joy Division and Velvet Underground. A few years ago I feel like I was listening to those bands and Bauhaus like every day all day.

Bauhaus i love a shitload. Ever hear Sisters of Mercy? The early stuff is really good if you like Joy Division and Bauahus -- songs like Alice and Adrenochrome.

I haven't heard of them but it sounds pretty good. I'll add them to my Spotify library. Singer sounds a bit like Bowie

Then there's this one they are probably most known for (featured prominently in the movie The World's End if you've seen the Cornetto Trilogy), but this video is some single version that cuts the length in half (album version's long as hell)

Keeping it gothy in July, I'd also ask if you're familiar with Siouxsie & The Banshees

I've seen the first two in the trilogy, but I've never actually seen World's End funny enough even though I love the other films. Yes, I've heard of them. I actually listened to Sweetest Chili not that long ago. Im a huge Shoegaze fan so anything ethereal is always up my alley.

I like the original shoegaze scene but I wasn't familiar with Korean shoegaze until recently, but still know very little about it

It's a pretty small scene at the moment, it's not like the Japanese who are obsessed with the genre. Despite all of that, there are still a few bands that seem to be really pushing the genre ahead at the moment which is impressive. I love Shoegaze but it has kind of stayed the same with its sound for a good long while now.

Not familiar with Japense shoegaze as a scene either (though I know I've heard some that would fit the bill). Most Japanese music I'm familiar with branches either from psychedelia, early rock/rockabilly, or punk. And, of course, anime end-credits music.
