There isn't a single team in the NHL with the assets needed to acquire Slavin.

Any trade to acquire Slavin would leave the team's asset cupboard so barren and lineup so weak that you would expect the franchise to fold entirely.

However, Slavin counters that. Opponents simply cannot score goals. You win the Stanley Cup. And the next one. And the one after that. Seats are packed on a nightly basis. Dynasty.

No no no....no one's watching because the games are all boring 1 - 0 wins.

People show up to see 10-2 blow outs.

You simply must be a casual who does not value defensive play if you would trade THE Jacob Slavvin for Connor McDavid (who??).

Exactamente.

Leaf have not seen defense enough to qualify to speak on.

They know many how to score goals.

Record number of games 4+ goal against.

@avgard will professor it for you.

This might be a crazy opinion, but I don't see why Carolina does this trade. They are trying to win now, and McDavid really isn't a playoff player with lack of back checking.

I would rather have the combo of Aho and Slavin for a playoff run.

No lol

There's no assets in the league that is worth McDavid on a one-for-one Trade, besides maybe Bedard

Slavin is a solid defenseman, but this take is mindblowingly bad
Ummm...a young team.id a different stage would perhaps disagree. I would entertain a proposal for Makar, or Jack Hughes if my team was still 4 to 5 years away . Currently mcdavid isn't player like a top 20. Alot depends on contract value as well, although mcdavid is good .
Other players proposals that would be interesting would Q huges, Matthews Mackinnon .

I don't dialsagree with your assessment but Carolina makes this deal with ease amd really no explanation is needed.

Both teams spinning tires here just for the sake of making a deal. Teams dont win cups by trading away mcdavid types..in fact it hasn't happened in the modern NHL. Pittsburgh didn't win because jarg was traded. The closest examples would.be huberdeau/ MT, or Weber and PK. Didn't result in a cup for anyone. If I was Edmonton, the player I want is Jake ott..

OP had a proposal and question worthy of discussion. This thread went off the rails with some very silly "wouldn't trade McD for Slavin straight up" buffoonery.

It would make the Canes better. McDavid's game-breaking ability would more than compensate for what they would lose off the back end, where they'd remain quite strong.

Slavin would give the Oilers two solid defenders with him and Ekholm. Big improvement. It does nothing for their goaltending woes though.

The Oilers trade their all-world, generational center, who could well end up one of the all-time greats, for two top-quality players, but still leave a gaping hole in their roster. The value is at least debatable, but it just wouldn't make sense for them.

Decent goalies aren't hard to find.

Look at Colorado, Caroline, Vegas....you don't need to spend 10m for a Russian cyborg goaler.

Whoever is back there would look a lot better behind Slavin and Ekholm.

Nuge would want to be traded to a contender I would think. He would have a better chance to the the number 1 center and play with wingers like Pasta and Marchand.

If I am Edmonton though, I would want more assurance. Maybe a second round pick.

Ullmark for Hyman good trade. But doubt Bruins have caproom.

I can't see RNH as a 1C tbh. I'm a huge fan but he's a 2C or 1W.

FTR.. I didn't think Zacha could do it either so take my view with a grain of salt.lol

Hyman had 36 goals and 83 points last season
RNH also had over 100.
Outlier seasons.

Hyman's a really good player on a really good deal
Not sure the B's make the deal though.

Beauty goaltending has won them a lot of their games this season
