Hart to Edmonton makes a great deal of sense. Something could be worked on in that direction. There's no rational way to expand that deal to include Draisaitl to Philly, unless it's secretly been a dream of his and he somehow manages to force that to happen.

I expect my Habs might well be involved in a secondary capacity in any Oilers shakeup... Montreal is one of the rare teams that can add cap, and there is a relationship there (ie, Kulak trade).
Habs are not adding 3.75 years of Capdumpbell. And cost it would incur would not make sense for the Oilers who can buy him out next offseason.

There’s a lot of things that Edm should do but here’s to things that I would look closely first:

- Hire Stephane White (Former Price and Crawford coach) as the goalie coach.

- Inquire about Marc-André Fleury availability. Not only Fleury would bring stability in front of the net but also he’d bring much needed leadership.

Oilers and Leafs need to look at each other and go “wait, so you need solid D AND decent goaltending?!”

I’m still on the fence as to whether they should add to their defence. As a Pens fan, they won the Cup with a mostly pedestrian defence in ‘16. That defence, though, had Kris Letang. Plus, there was complete buy-in from the team. The Oilers don’t have a defender of his calibre and nobody is buying in.

We're with you if we can make the cap work. We keep Draisaitl and add Hart. Why not

Perhaps. But what if the Habs take on Foegele or McLeod without giving up assets?

Why? Neither would make a difference on the Habs. They are just more of the same garbage that don't add value.

Habs need talent, not scrubs.

So that Drai/Spurgeon trade offer got me thinking and pondering if there was a way for the Oilers to actually get Spurgeon, without Drai of course in a drastic win-now type move.

3 Team Deal:
To Edmonton: Jared Spurgeon, Marc-Andre Fleury (50% retention), Patrick Maroon (50% retention)
To Minnesota: Evan Bouchard, Xavier Bourgault, Matvei Petrov, Mattias Janmark, Petr Mrazek, 2024 1st round pick (EDM), 2024 2nd round pick (EDM)
To Chicago: Jack Campbell, Vincent Desharnais, Carter Savoie/Raphael Lavoie, 2025 1st round pick (EDM)

Rationale:
- Edmonton gets their top pairing RHD, starting G for the season and a solid veteran for the bottom six, both Fleury and Maroon are UFAs at the end of the year.
- Minnesota gets Bouchard, two of the Oilers top prospects, 2024 1st and a 2024 2nd. Mrazek and Janmark replace Fleury and Maroon and are free agents at the end of the year
- Chicago picks up a 2025 1st, one of the Oilers better prospects, a young RHD and no cap difference for the season swapping Campbell with Mrazek. Campbell's buy out at the end of the year isn't terrible either with savings in the next 3 seasons and a $1.5M cap hit for 3 seasons

Obviously there are NMCs involved with the Wild players, but hopefully they can be convinced to waive. Spurgeon is from Edmonton, Maroon seemed to enjoy his time here and Fleury would get to be the starter.

Oilers Lines:

Kane - McDavid - McLeod
Holloway - Drai - Foegele
Hyman - Nuge - Gagner
Maroon - Ryan - Brown

Nurse - Spurgeon
Ekholm - Broberg
Kulak - Ceci

Fleury
Skinner
From an Oilers standpoint, this seems like giving up a bunch of assets to still suck.

Fleury isn’t getting traded, nor is he waiving. Wallstedt isn’t being rushed and fleury is Minnesota current starter with Gus sucking

Completely trash for Minnesota. Two cap dump. All nothings prospect, Offensive Dman that our coach hates and won’t like, and picks. Wow how could Minnesota say no, lol dude. You better offer your top C

Hyman is too old no way his points are bc of who he plays with.

Boston should not pick up the phone or talk to Edmonton about anything other than McDavid Drai or unprotected 1st this year.

Is it just a few clueless homers claiming they wouldn't trade Slavin for McDavid, or is it a good portion of the HF-Canes fanbase?

Don't feel like reading 9 pages, so I figured I'd just ask.

Either way - It's certainly a HF-Hall-of-Shame worthy opinion. lol
