You're not going to make that decision based on 12 games or even 82 games really.

Like I said though, the GM has no say so in this. Those two are under contract for Daryl Katz, and IMO he is not selling either one any time soon.

What you will likely see instead is several 1st round picks + prospects like Broberg/Holloway offered in packages to get goaltending + D help + likely a new coach at some point.

Nothing happens before that.

Hyman, who never had more than 21 goals in a season before joined McDrai is 31 and not the kind of guy you go out and make a big deal for.

Legit 1C+1D combo signed for 17M combined for the next 5 3/4 years.

But the ”problem” is that no Gm can be the Gm that traded away McDavid.

Even then I don't think so. They will double down on seeing if they have a good season next year and make some trades elsewhere if need be. Same thing the Canucks did with Petterson this year.

The other issue is why is Draisaitl (assuming Katz would allow a deal, which he wouldn't) even sign in Philly?

He won't. Going from playing with McDavid to a team that's probably still in the middle of a pretty long rebuild isn't likely to be that appealing for a player like him. So Philly would be giving up all these assets for a guy who's just going to walk to UFA and sign with like Florida or New York or team up with McDavid somewhere else in that hypothetical scenario.

2021 - Canes - Lost Semi-finals won one round - Oilers Lost First Round
2022 - Canes - Lost Semi-Finals won one Round - Oilers Lost Conference finals won 2 round

And it's no secret the Hockey experts say the Eastern Conferences is the toughest of the 2 conferences.

McDavid is worth way more than that. And anyone saying they wouldn't trade Slavin for McDavid is out of their minds.

As a Knights fan who saw his team win a cup last season, i would trade anyone of ours players for McDavid. Having said that though, even i will admit that none of our players or prospects would bring back a McDavid no matter how many different combinations Vegas tried to use to get him.

Winning the cup takes a team effort. It is not McDavids fault that he is surrounded by mediocre players.

I would be willing to bet money that if you replaced McDavid with Eichel last season during the playoffs, Vegas would still probably win the cup.

You add McDavid to CAR and remove Slavin and Aho and CAR likely wins the Cup in the next year or 2. CAR is such a good systems team that they can absorb the loss of even someone like Slavin and to upgrade from Aho to McDavid instantly gives them the elite gamebreaker they need to be super scary out in the playoffs.
