McQuaid sucks. Has everything this FO is looking for, though. Once again, we see where the priorities lie. Everyone blind to it for whatever reason.

I don't even know what to say anymore.

4th worst relxGF% last year among d-men who skated 500 minutes (213 players | Corisca)
Imagine my feeling when I realized after my initial post that we gave up the 4th in this deal. :dunno:

Pionk would not require waivers to be sent to Hartford. DeAngelo would. I will relentlessly LOL if McQuaid is on the opening night roster and Pionk is in the AHL.

I hate this team.
I think we’ll see Pionk bounce back and forth a bit, just like most of the other young guys. This is just a meh move to me overall. The only thing that frustrates me is giving up the picks, and I truly don’t see McQuaid playing that often. I’d rather have him be the grit guy than Cody Mcleod.

He shouldn't see any ice time ahead of ADA or Pionk, even if they struggle early on. In a rebuilding year they should be given every opportunity to succeed. But we all know McQuaid will be in the lineup from day 1.

I have a hard time envisioning Pionk starting the year with the team. If from nothing else, a pure asset conversation.

He doesn't have to clear waivers. DeAngelo/O'Gara/Claesson do

I see them rolling 8 D and rotating to see what works

There's a McQuaid thread guys, this thread isn't a place to discuss the team in general away from "the others".

Think he was trash last year but would rather see if he can turn it around rather than play guys who we know suck like McQuaid.
This. Would much rather see Pionk go through growing pains than watch a bum like McQuaid. Or ADA, who looked like he had been making improvements after he was recalled. And IDK if you were just being facetious before, but McQuaid will likely be the top pairing defenseman.

Skjei-McQuaid
Staal-Shattenkirk
Smith-Pionk/ADA/whoever

Not being facetious. I firmly believe McQuaid is going to be well overplayed this year. Not a fun opinion to have in the McQuaid thread right now.

It's just logical if you really think about it. McQuaid is a big, tough, defensive defenseman who can eat the so-called tough minutes, getting defensive zone starts, and letting Skjei run wild offensively as McQuaid covers for him. I don't know why anyone would get on you for having that opinion, when it's easy to envision.

If your prospects can't beat out a guy who sucks then you may as well cut bait and move them for picks. No reason to have them play and confirm for everyone else they also suck.

Somebody remind me to run player sim on McQuaid later.

Nate Prosser
Andrej Sekera
Bryce Salvador
Bryan McCabe
Chris Phillips
Jonathan Ericsson
Matt Carle
Brian Pothier (who)
Andrew Ference
Jason Garrison

I remember Pothier. He was on the Caps in like 2009 or 10. You know, those years where they had Mike Green and five toilet fires on defense.

McQuaid was a borderline 3rd pairing defenceman at his peak and is in decline. Not only did we give up a 4th, which is bad enough, but having McQuaid on the roster will hurt us compared to Kampfer since his NHL track record will force him higher in the lineup than Kampfer ever would.
