If this team is good enough to put Skjei in a role he belongs in, he's helping us.

If they're bad enough that he's a #1/2 D, he's not helping us.

That's what I meant.

I feel many Rangers fans see him as that 1/2.

Have the foresight to listen to that dude who used to post Spyder charts and nailed it by saying G was gonna be a bad long-term investment. Also go back in time and give Phaneuf a laxative before the game.

Ok, that’s fair.

But if you’re saying he’s already a good second pairing guy, why can’t he develop more? He’s only 24 and should continue to improve, especially away from AV hockey.
 
I think Skjei can be a really good 2nd pair guy.

You hope one of the d prospects we got ends up as a top pairing guy. Not Pionk FFS. One of the kids we got.

I’m all for signing him. Count me as anti-purge. This idea that we f***ed everything up in history and every guy we have that isn’t a star must be traded is dumb. Pouty childish shit.

I’m not one of them. It’s why I’m not thrilled with the idea of committing to him long term. He’s going to a deal that a 2nd pairing Dman shouldn’t get.

Believe it or not Kershaw was actually the OG analytics guy and he was essentially bullied from the board for arguing at the time that David Clarkson was superior to Ryan Callahan, among other things. (Not defending him or his use of analytics for the record, but he was the first to make arguments on here using them, loosely.)

You either chose the bad hockey player in Komarov or the bad player in Reaves

Avy idea: Format of MH's Gorton avy, but it's Gordie, and it says 'OUR GUY' at the bottom. If my current avatar did not embody my spirit perfectly, I'd make that mine.

Back on topic:

Instead of targeting bullshit like Reaves or Komarov, why not target Kunitz and Schaller?

P60, 5v5:
Komarov: 0.67
Reaves: 1.01
Schaller: 0.93 - ew
Kunitz: 1.68

relTxGF% 5v5:
Komarov: -4.51%
Reaves: -3%
Schaller: +4.42% - life
Kunitz: -1.09%

I'm honestly shocked that Schaller's P60 is so low, but that relTxGF% makes me drool. Talk about driving play. He scored 6 goals under his ixG total, so I'm thinking that low p60 is a fluke or his shot is terribad. The discrepancy wasn't as wide the year before last, so I'm thinking it's a fluke and he rebounds that P60 to something a bit closer to what it should be. If he scored at his ixG rate, his P60 last year would've been ~1.33. But that's a big IF.

Anyway, obvious Kunitz is obvious, if this is the "type" of guy they want to target. Should require nothing more than 1 year at $2m AAV. Which is a hilarious use of money for a fourth liner, but, shrug.
 
I've kinda resigned myself to the fact that the team is going to suck, and I really don't care who they sign as long as it doesn't impede growth of our young guys and isn't long term (more than two years)

I'd like to think the team will make smart decisions, but ya know

I'd like to be less cynical, but ya know lol
