I've kinda resigned myself to the fact that the team is going to suck, and I really don't care who they sign as long as it doesn't impede growth of our young guys and isn't long term (more than two years)

I'd like to think the team will make smart decisions, but ya know

I'd like to be less cynical, but ya know lol
This "we're going to suck anyway" mentality doesn't change the fact that the FO has consistently shown time and time again that these are players that they value

And that is the problem.

Yeah, I agree

It's frustrating.

We need to get you to apply to the team and work your way up Eric Spoelstra style

This is the exact problem, well said SF. If the team wasn't planning on being competitive, fine. But man is it frustrating seeing who they are targeting.

I don’t care if the team sucks I just don’t want bad players dragging down kids and good players. Sucking because a team is young and the coach is new is totally palatable.

If they value "character" now, they'll value it when the team is competitive.

You're on the complete opposite end of the spectrum of the hockey meatheads who only want character and grit. It's not binary. Character is not a bad thing at all, it's just less important than tangibles.

Ryan Reaves and Leo Komarov are not binary. They're terrible at hockey.

Had been meaning to do this, so finally sat down and did it...

I really hope there's some truth to us hiring Kathryn Yates (Quinn's lead analytics person at BU). I still don't know what Jim Sullivan does for a living.

Also, I'm glad that we know what type of players to target. Pateryn would've been a solid signing.

Am I reading this wrong? Is the top half supposed to be high points per 60 and the left TOI per GP? Because with the labels that's what makes sense to me. The way it looks to me the top left quadrant is low points per 60 and high TOI per GP but that wouldn't make sense calling it opportunity then.

you're backwards. Top-left is high p60 and low toigp.

Good depth regardless. Doesn't hurt to have him as a 7th D option.

Like the Names deal too
Yeah didn't mean to imply that he wasn't good depth to have, I'm just not totally sure how much of him we're actually going to see. Of course pending how the roster shapes up the rest of the summer.

so jim sullivan IS alive? or that girl from Bu took over and got to work?
Claesson is oddly off the board enough where maybe I'd think there is a 'new' voice, but also the Rangers tend to do this a lot. Finding a "random" depth d-man basically every summer.

Not sure why it's never Franson, but, gonna try not to complain right now.

Would be great if we brought in Yates just to have at least more than one person in the organization with "analytics" in their title.
