Remember when Fitz was considered but us all as one of the best gms in the game? Ticking every box in the off-season?

Things looked like they were going good, but he hadn't proven much in the long term. Of course this was his first head GM job in the NHL.

I think he deserves a chance to let the rest of the season play out. I think he's earned that.

But I don't think you can run it back with him again if we miss the playoffs. I can't see it. The results aren't good enough for a team that's in his words been ''Competing'' for 3 years now. His offseason 2023 tour was him boasting about how the time is NOW and we're competing NOW. It's not about just making the playoffs after the season we just had, it's about taking the next step. These are his words and they came before last season. And when last season went bad he fired the head coach. The first head coach he hired when the interim tag was removed. First playoff miss after 22-23 got the coach fired. Who does the next playoff miss get fired?

After reaching what is currently the peak in year one, we're going backwards. I don't expect another 113 point season, but this many years after a rebuild started I think you should be able to expect a measly playoff berth 2 times in 3 years.

Right now Fitz is pretty much on the roof of the high rise and he's officially chosen his form of destructor. He now defeats the stay puft marshmallow man or he perishes.

I really have no idea how drafting is done on a team. What if you learned that the guy that picked Bratt picked Holtz? You need an info edge plus a process edge to make better decisions. It's not just one dude taking the fall. But yes, the forward drafting has sucked. Also I don't like Frank Gehry.

This is what I've been saying for years. We've been extraordinarily reckless with out high draft picks, and it might ultimately close our window before it ever even opened.

You stop letting him influence our first round picks and let him focus on late round gems.

Everyone associate with the Holtz pick is guilty of immeasurable stupidity.

there's a group of 5ish people who make this forum unbearable. and i can confidently say that because a few years ago i was one of those 5.

this forum is becoming less and less important to me because 1) i'm getting older and 2) the world has become a more depressing, polarized place and i certainly don't need that on a hockey website.

i'll always keep reading posts here because it's a great way to kill time at work, but the vibes here get so toxic when the devils lose a game. it's not that important, touch grass.

You know, the guy who got fired for missing the playoffs 4 times in a 5 years, who took over a team that had basically nothing.

And who the hell cares about Adam Larsson in 2011? That was 2 GMs ago and the guy is not 30-something years old.

For the curious: The Devils are retaining 25% of the remaining ~$500k salary on Frederic’s contract this season, approximately $125K in real dollars.

The historical going rate for that much retention by a 3rd team is roughly a 6th round draft pick, possibly multiple years in the future.

So this trade is essentially the Devils acquiring the rights to Lachance rather than receiving a 2025-2028 6th round draft pick.
