McCarty played up and down the lineup had more skill than kostin could dream of. Plus McCarty is all heart. Hes a key role player that would still be a very important piece today. Kostin is invisible 98% of the time. No comparison. If kostin was half of what McCarty was to this team he wouldnt have gotten traded.

If the skating required now were the same as the skating required in the 90s, Klim would have been no different. Klim was a 1st round talent in lower tiers. It's just at the NHL level the skating is HUGE. And Klim doesn't have it and neither did Mac.

to be fair veteran doesn't necessarily mean old

A bit like how Bob Probert was legitimately a top 6 forward who just could throw hands with anyone. Klim Kostin is not, nor has ever been, on the level of a guy like Darren McCarty.
