Bryson? He was so damn good, he shouldn't sit. Gilbert probably will, Sammy will take his place, and Joki will probably have to sit.
Power/Bryson struggled against the Flames. I know it was 90% on Power, but I fully expect the depth guy to pay the price.

Then it would be a bad move by Ruff, because it was Power who couldn't get the puck in and Bryson who was saving his ass a lot. You can replace Gilbert with Sammy, but you definitely shouldn't touch Bryson just because Power was having a bad day or even a bad period.

Why Jokiharju and not Sammy? You don't want to pair two RD on the third pairing when they both don't seem to be playing well on LD.
Because Samuelsson has been terrible this season. Jokiharju is a RHD with positive possession stats and positive on ice results.

I already told you about analytics and metrics, as we can see Ruff agrees with me. Chemistry is important, if Clifton sits down, then I agree that Jokiharju should probably replace him, but they both don't play LD.

The bind of trying to shuffle the defense for a roll of the dice would be what does one do with roster space?

Jokiharju makes twice what Fabbro does and I doubt there are teams having cursory thoughts that they need to line up for $5M in cap hit for a Sabre defenseman who isn't even in the lineup. Even if they retain, he's the same cost as Fabbro is right now and Trotz isn't finding any takers.

Bryson has been effective and is cheap - I think of analytic teams wanting a cheap 7 and think he's a possible waiver claim. He's again being weirdly effective at defending. His biggest issue as a small, mobile defenseman remain in his lack of production offensively. Pairing him up with Power mitigates that some. Is that the risk?

Gilbert has provided jam and is also relatively cheap AAV-wise. Again, not sure demotion would be the path. Is that the risk?

If they had a free spot, I wouldn't mind them seeing what they have with a Fabbro claim, but there will be an additional move required and if Fabbro is not productive, it compounds the move since it seems they would have to trade or waive another defenseman to make it happen.

There is a retain option or a hockey deal, there are teams that have cap space, also Fabbro and Jokiharju UFA in the summer, so the teams are not risking much.

It's trying to fit them in now though. Most contenders are trying to bank cap space for the deadline. I think there are only 10 teams that have the available cap space for a $2.5M add (even prorated for the games played doesn't push it to 11).

Gilbert I can see - three penalties, a lot of his minutes late soaked by others due to it. I don't know about Bryson. In
I’m less confident about Bryson, but I think getting Power with a natural righty and giving Joki a shot to prove himself tips the scale toward Bryson being the odd man out.

I'm not a fan of the history of Power-Jokiharju in their own zone. Puts me off my morning coffee.

Well, of course, these are mainly teams that are being rebuilding or reequipped, I think it’s possible to find some kind of deal.

We've seen this pair many times, it doesn't work, there's no chemistry.

The Sabres win three games in a row
Is Ruff going to shake up the line up.
Unless some one is hurt

Why would he do that?

Wasn't a fan of Gilbert last game, if anyone is sitting it's him. Only question is if its Sammy or Jokiharju who replaces him. Most likely Sammy since he'd fit a similar gritty role that they wanted Gilbert to fill, and hopefully the time off has given Sammy enough of a spark to hopefully start playing better

The move for a RD which I don't think Adams will do would be Samuelsson + Rosén + high pick for a Top 4 RD. Then you take Jokiharju and hope you can swap him with a top 9 forward who is struggling with their team as well.

RD market is quite limited, and I also don't really understand what Sammy's value is now.

Maybe Samuelson/Joki and Power/Clifton?

I think the idea is to inject some fresh legs against Montreal and get 10 million in defensemen out of the press box and into the action.
