Looking at attack help, I'm interested in Oliver Bjorkstrand, a great forechecker, reasonable contract, almost 60 points last season. He was fine with the previous coach, but he doesn't seem to fit into Bylsma's system and was already a healthy scratch. Seattle is feverish, I wonder if there could be a deal. Yes, there is Borgen, but we already know that.

Getting Spud back and Bjorkstrand would be very interesting. I'm not sure where to put Bjorkstrand at the moment though - beside Cozens in place of Quinn? Then where does Quinn go since he's not waiver eligible any more.

Borgen of course remains a long-standing favorite and is the sort of stay-at-home, rugged righty who gives GM's nocturnal emissions.

Well, that's just thinking out loud for the future, if Quinn doesn't get better. But I want to understand what's wrong with Jack, why he looks so bad physically, he can't stand on his feet, he's so slow. If he's injured, put him in IR and let him heal.

Not a bad idea but the guy is turning 30 and we all know trading for someone over 24 is against the creed of do nothing Adams.

I keep thinking about the Chicago blueprint, after they drafted Toews and Kane, their top 6 acquisition was a 28 or 29 year old Hossa who ended up playing 8 seasons with Chicago and being a catalyst to their multiple cup runs.

We have done nothing like that. Players like Hossa don't end up in free agency much anymore so we need a trade in a bad way even if that means kids going out like Quinn. Vegas manned up and went and traded us for Eichel, he was a key component to them winning a cup. Florida went and traded one of the best goalie prospects to us for Reinhart and he was a key component to them winning a cup.

Staying status quo with this roster even on a 3 game win streak just isn't the way moving forward I don't think and I'm all in for some kids moving out and surrounding the kids leftover with 28 to 30 year old vets who can still play good hockey and are 60+ point players who know what it takes to win hockey games.

Well, Florida also traded for Tkachuk, traded Montour for next to nothing, found diamonds in Verhaeghe and Forsling. A change of scenery for Bennett. Amazing work by GM and coach.

But I agree that we have so many prospects and young players that we could find some kind of deal for a top 6 forward and find a top 4 RD (not necessarily expensive, like in the Florida example).

I already told you about analytics and metrics, as we can see Ruff agrees with me. Chemistry is important, if Clifton sits down, then I agree that Jokiharju should probably replace him, but they both don't play LD.
Agreed there’s very little point trusting analytics, metrics, or on ice results.

I’m pretty sure Ruff sat him because he wants him more physically engaged.

Borgens stats this year aren’t very good.

That's not true, that's not what I said. I said analytics is important, but not everything is measured by it, chemistry is important too and I'm not the only one who thinks so here. Physically? Maybe, although not all of our defensemen play physically and Ruff doesn't put them in the press box.

Fine if you don’t like analytics how about on ice results?

They’re all capable of being pretty physical except Jokiharju; and Samuelsson (this year)

Ruffs style for the team is up tempo with some, but not over the top, physicality.

The Sabres on average are a big team.

I like metrics and analytics, but I don't always refer to it. The results are good as long as Joki and Sammy are in the press box. I also like the pairing of Byram - Dahlin, although they are not ideal for each other because of the type of players, but especially in attack it looks dangerous. I also didn't like the pairing of Dahlin - Joki because for me it didn't work, they had no chemistry. This is just my opinion, you can disagree.

Why Jokiharju and not Sammy? You don't want to pair two RD on the third pairing when they both don't seem to be playing well on LD.
Byram - Dahlin
Power - Joki
Bryson - Clifton

Bryson - Clifton played well together at the end of last season.

Well I don't like Power with Joki but I'm willing to give them another chance, it's weird to keep a guy like Sammy in the press box.

I'm shocked that he got that far into the waiver claims order.

I figured SJ would have put a claim in.
They recently traded Liljegren, do they have place for him? But I'm not surprised he was claim.

A disinterested stay at home defensemen who isn't playing physically and is a minus player on a team with good 5v5 performance?

Yeah, load up on those.
He used to play differently, everyone has a bad streak. Joki wasn't perfect for many years either.

This lack of chemistry claim makes no sense. As a pairing they have the best goal differential on the team at 5v5, the second highest goals/60, and by far the lowest goals against/60.

Give me that sort of dysfunction any day.

And it makes sense to me, they don't pass the eye test, they always have a lot of uncoordinated actions and mistakes, Dahlin likes to go to the right, Joki doesn't want to or forgets to go to the left, all this is especially noticeable when our team attacks. At defense Dahlin often stands near the net, Jokiharju constantly loses the one-on-one battle, especially physically. You can argue as much as you want, but you won't convince me that Dahlin - Jokiharju is a good pair.

If he's being held down why isn't he accomplishing significantly more without him?

For me it is, he plays more freely and dangerously in attack, he could only score 2-3 goals with Calgary. He and Byram seem to play completely differently than when he played with Joki, and Byram is simply a better player overall than Joki, especially at offense.

So this is the maddening part. If they're playing completely different why doesn't it result in better outcomes?
