Trouba is better than Joki, but way more expensive for the next 2 years. In other words, it would be a mild upgrade at a position of great need, but hinder our ability to upgrade elsewhere. I could go either way, but I'd probably only do it if they retain and we don't have to give up much.

I'd probably also want to talk to him before I brought him into the locker room to make sure he's not going to poison the well.

Who cares if he’s expensive if we otherwise can’t find players willing to play for the team? It will probably go unspent otherwise.

I don’t like Trouba, just saying

I wonder if Adams will try and claim him if he's waived?

Ruff goes back with trouba. I think claiming him is a mistake, as he's clearly said he doesn't want to leave NYC area, his wife is in residency and cannot transfer. Basically going to pick up a guy who won't want to be here and will be miserable. He's due 8M in cash next year as well.

If I'm reading Puckpedia correctly, Columbus would be the only team on that list that could claim Trouba off waivers and absorb his full cap hit today.

Given as much as Adams has talked about 2025-26 cap space, I would be surprised if he took on Trouba's contract at the full price unless there is a trade with a significant 2025-26 contract going back. Like say Samuelsson for Trouba, or something like that.

On the other hand. He could view this as doing him a solid. Of the rumored interested teams, Buffalo is the closest to NY no? He may prefer to play there vs. Getting moved further west.

I don't think I'd hate us claiming/getting Trouba.

I also don't think I'd LIKE it.

He's pretty clearly on the downside and damned near washed.....but maybe he has another good 18 months in him before the wheels fall completely, 100% off? I mean....I know they're wobbling.......

This is where I am at. Not an ideal target, but doing something is better than doing nothing at this point and if we get him cheap/free then it is low risk.

But is getting Trouba better than doing nothing? Isn't there a chance that it goes utterly and horribly askew? Especially considering that he's not really good at the whole defense thing?

I dunno.

I'd rather do nothing than be stuck with him for another season beyond this one at $8m..

No way I’d touch him without retention. And it would have to be a trade in our favour - IE - Clifton for trouba.
I'd rather have Clifton.

Remove Bryson and Jokiharju, let the Rangers retain, 8 million is a lot for such a guy.

If we actually made 3 trades for quality, proven top 6 F/top 4 D players... considering how much we'd need to add and overpay to do that, considering the pieces we're looking to replace/sending out are largely unproven and/or damaged goods themselves... we'd mortgage basically everything. Not to mention being a buyer out of anything besides Cup aspirations is desperate in a bad way and a position of real disadvantage.

I get that the fans want to see the organization upheave itself because "f*** everything" and "it's been 13 years" but it's not realistic. I could see A trade like that happening, and it should happen. Maybe two, if I even thought Adams was capable of that lol, since both 2C and top 4 D are needs.
You're right that Adams won't be able to make 3 big trades right now to save this season.

But it was entirely possible for Adams to make big trades the last 4 seasons, and make big trades and signings the last 4 offseasons to fill those holes. Look at the Caps this past offseason, they were the biggest shaker and mover over the summer and now they're 2nd in the entire league. Or look at NJ over the last few years, very active in improving the roster every chance they get.
