There is step one for the Rangers to get Tkachuk. They dumped Trouba's salary. The rich get richer and NYR has a way of pulling things off over the years.

I don't see Tkachuk leaving Ottawa but if he does the NYR or NJD would be top of the list I would guess.
For some reason it always seemed like he wanted to go to St. Louis or WHERE PALM TREES and his brother to Florida. But I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up with Rangers or Devils.

Ok, so what's everyone's wishlist of guys on teams that might sell or shake things up, that dont have NTCs.

-Rags fans have soured on Chytil for what mostly seems to be injury reasons. We saw with Mitts, sometimes its bad luck. He has decent metrics getting to the net

-I think Boston starts losing again. And if they are open for business I'd take a healthy run at Carlo. 10 team NTC that we're probably on, but 10 or less has some possibility

-Chicago: Connor Murphy - 10 tream NTC, so also probably not happening.

-If minnesota is actually moving on from Rossi I'd be interested. I'm guessing they don't like they idea of paying a small point producing forward when you can get value for less flash, but don't think he lacks substance

-NSH ROR o_O

-Utah Jack McBain, Kesselring

Calgary. I think Weegar is the rush ending, blueline defending RD with bite the Sabres desperately lack.

When you rely on a young defense you will get burned. They just never got that rock veteran defenseman to go with our young talent. They pay for it every game.

His name's popped up a lot. Why is he potentially being moved so soon after getting there?
Mostly speculation due to his age + contract when coupled with the Flames roster and wanting retain Andersson.

Chytil would be a great target had he not had his brain scrambled multiple times; he's just not high end enough to risk it on that injury history.

Boston trades are a big no, they will want absurd assets for Carlo and I'm not willing to go there with them

Murphy might be willing, effectively he'd be getting a better roster around him which is really saying something

Rossi is a eh shrug type of player at this point

ROR would be insane but strangely fitting to what we are looking for

Don't know enough about either to give a good response.

As for Weegar, depends on the price but he'd be a piece I'd love to have.

RD options.

Weegar would be a dream, but I'm not sure he'll be available, plus he has full NTC. On the other hand, Andersson only has six teams in his M-NTC and maybe they'll move him at TDL. But I would consider Andersson more as Dahlin's first pair partner. And that would involve trading Power or Byram, which is more likely the second scenario. Where we get two top 4 RDs in different deals.

The first scenario is to simply find a reliable partner for Power and keep Byram - Dahlin in the first pair.

Kesselring is an interesting option, although I was told on the main board that he actually looks more like a guy who is good with the puck and defense is not his strong point, which surprised me, but it could be true.

Aside from Weegar, Carlo and Murphy I would look at a guy like Pulock, I'm not sure he'll be available, but he's probably good veteran to play with Power.

- Whitecloud/Korczak
- Jensen/Zub
- Miromanov
- Spence
- Peeke
- Risto :)

Of the young players, Helleson and Lamoreaux could be possible.

C options.

We are unlikely to get guys like Pettersson, Malkin and JT Miller. I don't think Vegas will want to trade their centers either.

- Barzal could be an option, but it's complicated.

- ROR maybe, but I don't believe it.

- Granlund or Nelson (rental).

- Norris looks like an interesting player but it's a risk due to his broken shoulder and contract.

- Kadri, Coyle, R. Strome, Kotkaniemi, Frederic, Pinto, Greig, Bourque, Novak, Frost, Dach, Parssinen.

Because Calgary may have made a mistake handing him and Huberdeau and Kadri their deals based on the team's performance since. Same reason Rasmus Andersson's name has floated.

Coyle, Novak, and strome were also names standing out to me. The first 2 are having down years in terms of production. I think I'd take either but i guess it's a little risky if its supposed to be a move that's "win now"

Question/hypothetical 2:

We need a RD, but obviously the options are limited. How good would a left hand shooter have to be for people to want them for that role

I am for any risk, because Adams' tactics do not work. While other GMs find good players, he does nothing and just says that he is satisfied with the youth movement.

Ruff said he needs right-handers at RDs,

Specifically, someone to cover for Power's lack of urgency defending around his own net. Is it someone who is good at denying entries or is it someone who is better around the net? I lean toward net defense and actively being back to offset Power's weakness in that regard.

It could be - could be - someone who isn't playing at that level somewhere else. I know, I know, crazy thought that someone out there could be good at that who it isn't clear already is. Think about how Montour grew up in Florida. Or they bite the bullet and allow Power to be the Brian Campbell of his pair, playing on his off-hand side, and go hard for a good LD to cover for him.

Joki ain't it.

Yeah there is probably someone out there they could get to fit that spot. It would be nice to find that. At the same time I have no interest in giving away picks and prospects in hopes something sticks.

Their best bet is for teams to start falling off and they start trading off players. If they can stay in the mix till then, they have a chance.

As rough as things have been, many make it out like this team is in last place and is already out of it. They are 2 points out of a wildcard spot.

What two points? They're closer to last place in the conference than the playoffs.

I agree but so many years and the only consistent thing has been inconsistency in terms of record constant injuries to key players while I don't doubt their ability and talent as I do think we have a more balanced and skilled group than previously, but doubt their capability to constantly put it together and stay on the same page. I'm no insider so I can't really say the cause but guess's are pre game prep or not being fully mentally engaged like their minds start to drift and lose concentration out of no where they seem to put in the work and effort but it just looks so disconnected from the material at times unable to let go and give in to instinct and just play hockey, also not a lot of flow to the game its kind of jagged if that makes sense? We should retool the rebuilt rebuild anyway possible Quinn might the culprit no.1 as he is not having things go his way, but immense skill and goal scoring ability and I could see it being erat for Forsberg, cozens is a probable but would rather see him moved to wing in a reduced role his mature play style and mindset will hamper him as he plays good enough to be trusted but he won't be able to grow his all around game being the match up center. I think all in all sometimes the guys get caught trying to play selflessly at times and maybe a little hero hockey from time to time and a healthy dose of superstition would help as the most successful athletes have superstition and pre game rituals.

Are we willing to trade high end assets for players that don’t have a lot of term left on their deals?

It depends on what kind of players they are and how many are term. But we don't have to look only at such players, the main thing is that they are the right players and the ones we need.
