Bumping this. Watched Guelph Storm last night and Danny Zhilkin was playing defence (ordinarily a centre) and looked really good. Reminded me of Duncan Keith and easily stood out with smooth skating and solid in all three zones. Might be a sneaky good pick up in the draft so something to keep an eye on.

How did this thread get so far down the list? :)

Looks extremely likely we're going to sit around 13-15 most likely?

Anyone have any favorites or fallers they hope to realistically see?

McKenzie's top 20 midseason rankings for anyone interested, probably best to wait for the final one though lol. (pulled from EP so the stats are up to date but the rankings might change come the final)

I think the 2 obvious fallers due to injury/illness concern are Jiricek (RHD) because of the knee injury and Miroshnichenko (RHS winger) was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma and will take time away from hockey during treatment.

My hope is that, like Lucius, Jiricek drops to us due to injury concerns but that feels unlikely.

Miroshnichenko was a consensus top 5 pick that now has some serious risk with the cancer diagnosis that will be too risky for people at the top of the draft. It would be a real home run swing because if he beats cancer and makes a full recovery getting him in the teens is great value and because he's a Russian we'd have his rights for life but the flip side of that coin is unfortunately a worst case scenario of death so it will be interesting to see when teams are willing to take on the risk profile for him.

Frank Nazar is the guy I would think be in our range when we draft. Similar style to Connor. Lots of upside but I bet he goes higher

The interesting guy is Brad Lambert, I think he keeps falling.

Kevin Korchinski is another guy that I like a lot. Him and Mateychuk. I hope the Rags make it to the 2nd round so we have another 1st pick

Nazar seems like a guy our scouts would be all over.

I’m interested in Lambert as well, but it’s concerning that he keeps falling — I’m not sure the reasoning why, though.

I think the Rangers have to make it to the conference final, so I’ll be rooting for them to get swept in round 3.

Yeah Jiricek would seem like a steal if he fell. But agree, the size, skating, and play so far and a RHD makes it seem like he will be snapped up before us.

I don't know much about Nazar, but he does sound interesting. Agree on Lambert. Seems like he is near the top of the draft on just talent. Might be a value pick if he's there for us.

Hockeyprospect.com really has Pickering high. Highest I think I've seen anywhere.

Jets better hope someone falls like Conner, Ehlers, Perfetti or the win the lottery like Laine because record in the first round when that doesn’t happen hasn’t been great lately.

I think it’s been fine. Too early to tell on Lucius. Heinola looks like he still has the potential to be really good, it’s perplexing that he haven’t played him. The year before we didn’t have a first. The only real obvious looking bust is Vesalainen and he was taken almost five years ago.

It's curable. The kid isn't getting DeD from this.

Would both be great picks if it shook out that way. One righty and one lefty both going to our feeder NCAA schools in Michigan and Minnesota.

I really do think that we need to target a RHD with that late 1st though. Just my opinion but the next core will have PLD, Perfetti, Ehlers, Connor, Lucius, Barron, Gus, Chibrikov, Rashevsky, Torgorsson, Reichel, Vesalainen, Harkins.

So I feel like the forwards are looking pretty good as I would say we have 4 confirmed top 6 players in the group with some high potential for the last 2 spots and Gus and Barron have both already impressed in bottom 6 roles and I really like the speed that Reichel and Harkins bring as well.

On D I feel great about the left side but I don't know who is going to be our top pair dman on the right side. I view Kovacevic as one of the Right D but after that it's a bit murky so it is an area I think we need to invest a few more premium picks in (1st or 2nd rounders).

I think we also need to get a read on Helle and if he plans to extend here through the next window or not because I also don't see "our next starter" in the pipeline right now either.

Just don’t count on there being a late 1st from NYR. Pretty good chance they make it to the second round of the playoffs, but getting through to the third will be mighty tough if they have to go through Carolina.

It's true. Even if it turns out to be the second round pick I still think that RHD should be a priority unless someone we really like drops.

True but they have the elite goaltending for an upset. I'm not counting on it but it's possible.
