We have options. I'd rather not see them use the buyout again... 7.5M$ in dead cap 2 years in a row.. Staal and Smith are moveable, it may cost a C-Prospect or a mid-late draft pick swap.

Marleau and his final year cost an unprotected 1st. Boston ate some of the last year plus on Backes' contract, hard to peg the value because of all the moving parts. But they couldn't move the whole salary. Even those Phaneuf deals, where the money owed was less than the cap hit still brought back other contracts like gaborik.

I don't know, I'm skeptical the cost will just be a c prospect. For any of those 3 contracts.
