Small sample size, but so far Gauthier looks like another big body that doesn't hit enough and isnt skilled enough to make up for that. If that's the case, Carolina won the trade.

Not an accurate description of his game, he isnt Kreider but he isnt emerson etem either.

Ranger fans: CK term too looong!

Also Ranger fans: Lolol stupid Isles taking that Parise contract.

Kreiders new contract ends when he will be about the same age Parise is now. Not really the same.

The takes in this thread....too funny.

People worried about the perception of other fans with what our team is doing....but mainly just so butt hurt that they were so self righteous that Kreider would not be extended, and would be traded, and now look like fools, and now will do their very best to find every scenario of how the signing will be a failure before the extension even begins.

In fairness, I think you're being generous with at least three of those contracts (Lemieux, Fast, Strome, and ADA's might be the floor).

So that could be a total of $3million more than what you have listed, on top of the $4-5 million you want to shed. So now you're looking at $7 or-$8 million, and that's without getting any contracts back --- which makes actual upgrading a very real challenge.

Because now you're moving that money, not to actually shore up positions, but primarily because you need the cash. So that's going to be a very real challenge, with very real consequences.

@Edge

Lemieux is not getting much. ADA got 925k this year. Strome could go to arbitration. Fast will be signed on Gortons terms.

Replace Staal and Skjei ($11M cost )with an actual defenseman. I've mentioned Brodin, who I think is the exact type of player we need.

We dont need to shore up positions per se. They just need to let the kids develop. The bottom6 could use help. Whether that be re-signing Fast or hope a player like Barron could help out. Bottom6 help should not cost us much.

I see further kids being added and the kids that are here developing.

We have options. I'd rather not see them use the buyout again... 7.5M$ in dead cap 2 years in a row.. Staal and Smith are moveable, it may cost a C-Prospect or a mid-late draft pick swap.

Kravtsov in for Buch has been evident to me for quite some time.

Is 500k per year for the next 7 years worth a 1st round pick and a prospect?

Trading Kreider now because they can't meet his full ask and then offering 7 x 7 at free agency

If there's no protection to end the final 1-2 years of the contract, it's totally kosher. $6.5M is way below market value. Kreider can get $7.5M from a GM hard up for offense in July. With HL, BS, MS expiring summer 2021, the only problem is next year's cap with KS, DG buyouts. I am just scared management is going to make their 11th consecutive mistake with evaluating defensive talent.

Brodin is actually good. Positive xGF% and SCF% the last 4 years. His game has gotten much better over the years. He's hardly a smaller and faster Staal. He's actually good.
