we have nothing but question marks at LHD.

I think we have a decent sampling of guys who project as middle pairing defensemen and bottom pairing defensemen. I think there's a little bit of road before they quite own that role.

I also think the guys with the higher end skill are a bit further out.

So that tells me there's a good likelihood that there needs to be something there to bridge those gaps. I think that becomes something the Rangers explore in some depth this summer.

Sucks for Trouba. His buddy's gone, he's probably second-guessing himself what he could've done more to help his brother out. Otoh, I think he'll beast down the stretch.

no more excuses for Trouba. As much as Brady has regressed it’s not all his fault that Trouba has been underwhelming. Trouba is making a ton of money it’s time for him to step up

If Pageau got a 1st/2nd/3rd then Kreider would've gotten more. The assumption you have to make here is that the Rangers felt they were better off signing Kreider than taking three tosses at the dart board for a player(s) that likely will never amount to another Kreider.

Why does it matter when it was signed if both parties really just wanted to make it work? All that matters is that they did.

i don’t see how the Rangers couldn’t get a top prospect or young player ready to go while owning the Top FA in the market.. The top FA on the market drew nothing and neither did the RFA like Strome. Hard to believe

one word was “sensed” and I don’t believe for a second this deal couldn’t have been finalized earlier had they reached out to Kreider’s agent earlier. Look at the trades league wide. Teams paid a fortune yet the Rangers couldn’t get much for Kreider? Doesn’t add up for me

Do you honestly think the deadline snuck up on JG? You know all the things you think he should’ve done and when, but I’m pretty sure he had his own plan and the organizational plan. Sometimes it takes a deadline to get a deal done. That’s why it happened at 1130am. It’s laughable that some think it just took that long for JG to make up his mind on what he wanted to do!

In my opinion they always wanted to keep kreider and he always wanted to stay but it took a hard deadline to get the compromise. I for one am thrilled to have kreider over a late first that we would hope to turn into kreider in 3-5 years and a middling prospect.

The top line LHD is gonna come from a trade at this point. I don’t know who that is or if he even exists, but at some point he’ll appear and Rangers will pull the trigger because they will have all of the assets to do so.

The Rangers signed the top UFA on the market. Look at it that way. The Rangers have no interest in moving Strome at this point since there's nobody to take his place and he has good chemistry with their best player. All of this makes sense to me and I was in the Trade Kreider crowd.

I'm surprised they got what they got for Skjei - which works far better for me than trading Kreider did.

Brodin would fit the bill and could be a guy who buys the Rangers time, before having to have a larger contract a year out.

The price won't be cheap though --- either for the trade, or the next contract.

that’s a joke to think Kreider could only return a “middling prospect” and a #1 considering Brady returned a #1 while Minny got a fortune from the Islanders for Parise.

Supposedly, both sides moved this morning.

Rangers went to 7 years. And Kreider came down to $6.5. Additionally, there is chatter that his initial price was actually higher than $7 million. So he probably came down closer to $750k annually from his starting point.
