The good news is, we are only 4 points out of the 8/9 draft slot and with the Shesterkin injury and Skjei trade, maybe getting down to that is feasible.

And with the extra first as ammo maybe getting up to 6-7 is even possible.
They'd be better off just making both picks. Odds are one of them will bust.

The amount of 2nd round picks Jesper Fast could garner in a trade is limited only by ones imagination.

Agreed, just doing a quick scan, it looks like the only 2nd rounders moved today were for Pageau, who got signed to an extension ten minutes after dealt, and then AA, who is still an RFA this summer.

That depends. You have to identify the player. It's not like it's just, "Oh, a 7th overall pick, he's gonna bust 50% of the time."

Some years the player at 7 is not so hot (Lias).

Other years, there are players way better than Lias available past 7 (like the following year when you had Quinn Hughes, Adam Boquist, Noah Dobson, Evan Bouchard, and Vitali Kravtsov all go at 7 or later).

This year, there is a damn good chance that the player available at 7 is a Kravtsov-like stud.

Im kinda shocked we traded Skjei without a corresponding move for Hanifin as @Edge previously speculated. I was sure Calgary was preparing that with the Gustafsson and Forbort deals
in essence Gauthier and a first round pick for Skjei and Joey Keane and $5.2m in cap space? that’s nuts
Fixed it for you.

The Rangers are cashing in on the prospect pool depth at D.

I question their ability to identify that player. If they sacrifice a first to move up, they better be right.

I really don't mind it for now though, this should be where you see how any of the RHDs look at LD, or get a better feel for what u have with Rykov and Hajek

There’s no need to rehash Kreider’s signing argument back and forth. The Rangers organization clearly put the emphasis on “now” and the next four seasons and I won’t argue that the Rangers will be worse during that timeframe.

Skjei moved to provide offsetting cap relief makes sense too, including to address expansion protection concern. If he’s healthy I want to see Rykov up and ADA - Trouba pairing please.
If we do not get better over the next 4 years it has nothing to do with Kreider and more for the fact that all our young players currently in the system have not progressed.

Swapping Hanifan for Skjei is lateral at best. And this is coming from someone that likes Hanifan

yah that would have made zero sense

rangers obviously want to spend money on tony. They’ve stockpiled left d prospects. Lindgren has come to fruition but they’ve got plenty others they feel can step in soon. Miller May make this team next year. Wouldn’t surprise me. Hajek Rykov Reunanen Robertson And Lundkvist could even play mins there. We’re gambling on our internal pieces and filling gaps. Staal and Smith gone after next year.

I still think one of Trouba, DeAngelo, Fox, or Lundkvist ends up on the left side.

I keep seeing people mentioning we should of traded for a top 4 defenseman. Arent we ok at defense, which would just block one of our prospects from playing?

Quite Frankly I kind of like the idea of D'angelo and Trouba together. Offensive D guy with a more Physical Defensive

D'Angelo - Trouba
(od) (dd)

Lindgren - Fox
(dd) ( od)

tbd - Lundqvist

I'm cool running with this at the beginning of next year
