He's younger and has lower cap hit, but his contract is two years longer.Swapping Hanifan for Skjei is lateral at best. And this is coming from someone that likes Hanifan
Their contracts both end in summer of 2024. But if you look at underlying numbers for both of them, they're extremely similar. He's younger and has lower cap hit, but his contract is two years longer.
Im kinda shocked we traded Skjei without a corresponding move for Hanifin as @Edge previously speculated. I was sure Calgary was preparing that with the Gustafsson and Forbort deals
I mean he is though. He isn't a top pairing D but he is THE top pairing LD on this team
Not mutually exclusive... it could be that we have a hole at center or LD and can't fill it due to having no cap space because the kids did progress and got paid (deservedly) and yet we needed to go to FA to fill that hole but couldn't.If we do not get better over the next 4 years it has nothing to do with Kreider and more for the fact that all our young players currently in the system have not progressed.
Our fingers from refreshing and trying to submit posts. What a day. I'm pooped.
Rangers kept fasth just so @Leetch3 had to read me type it as fasth for a few more months
I would be very worried about playing DeAngelo against an opposition's top players.
of those you've listed, ADA is probably the only long term commitment. Buch has another yearWe need the cap space for DeAngelo, Strome, Fast and Buch.
If we do not get better over the next 4 years it has nothing to do with Kreider and more for the fact that all our young players currently in the system have not progressed.
How are you positive it's the same people? I didn't constantly dump on Skjei. "Fleeced" is definitely an over reaction, but I don't recall seeing that term. The cap is still a problem because Skjei still needs to be replaced. The other moves over the last 9 months have boldly stated we are going for it, so the left d doesn't really just get to marinate and wait for the kids to be ready in 2 or 3 seasons. It's peak NYR HFboards. Literally every GDT & post game "Skjei is trash", Gorts trades him for a 1st "OMG why did we do that , we got fleeced" .Same ones complaining about the cap prior to the trade as well still can't make them happy.
I liked this... then I un-liked it, just to like it again.Just to be clear. Kreider for a 1.87 mil per year raise. I mean. This is a top line player. Freak athlete. 28 going on 29 and the premier net front powerplay presence in the league. 1.87 mil raise. 6.5 mil per. Not 9 mil. 6.5 mil in a league that’ll have a 90 mil cap in a couple years. Makes our number one center better. Electric chemistry and leadership.
I can’t even stomach the tears that we signed him my god.
in the process we moved out an extremely soft yet talented but soft long term deal in Brady Skjei a guy that just never lived up to his contract and had 4 more friggen years left!!!! We took no money back. We can now sign an absolute stud young dman in DeAngelo that will literally fight a grizzly bear for his teammates. Probably would do it for anyone just because he enjoys it.
This was always the best answer. Keep your best players move out your fringe ones. Fast should be gone as well. Hank will be gone. Maybe Staal. Cap won’t be an issue this summer.
So whos 1st would you rather have? Tor or Carolina?
