This week was a banner week for NYR Coverage.

Carp got beat up on twitter by E from Entourage, who had no idea who Carp was, but trashed him over a airplane seat recline debate.

Vince was on a sandwich run, which he is currently discussing on twitter, during the deadline.

Larry missed all the Skjei news, tweeted 30 mins later, read his mentions and got mad, and tweeted again about having a life while the trade was happening.

Everyone celebrating the Kreider contract needs to look at what just happened here.

Skjei should have returned more but their bind forced them to give him up "on the cheap." This is what happens when you have dead weight contracts.

This is a direct result of Smith and Staal.

For Skjei to bring more - it would have come with salary, for example a top-6 forward with $5m+ price tag. Clearly it was not what Gorton wanted.

The league probably has to make sure the math works with Carolina putting 17 guys on LTIR to make it fit.

If the offers for Fast were no more than a third round pick, that's close enough to valueless that they may have just decided keeping Jesper in the organization with plans to re-sign were safer than letting him go elsewhere and potentially irritating him.
I mean for Kreids I can see that but Fast? You get what you can and sign him in July if you really want to. THere going to be a big bidding war for him???

Kreider resigned, Fast self-rented and all after Shesterkin gets injured. The Rangers are the 6th worst team in the NHL without Shesterkin, they wont make it. Lost a chance to add a first and a pair of seconds by holding on to Kreider and Fast. Lunacy.

Yes if all you were worried about is this year with Kreider its lunacy to keep him, but thats not what they're worried about. They want him for the next 5+ years

Because they have no goalie? FLA fans are celebrating Trocheck leaving. Skjei replaces Slavin. Vatanen is not going to save the team on defense but will help their PP.
Reimer and Mrazek are day-to-day. Forsberg and Nedeljkovic will be ok until then. Maybe one strikes hot. Its happened pretty recently.

The good news is, we are only 4 points out of the 8/9 draft slot and with the Shesterkin injury and Skjei trade, maybe getting down to that is feasible.

And with the extra first as ammo maybe getting up to 6-7 is even possible.

Kreider staying on a 7 year deal isn't ideal, it's stupid, but if the moves that fall out are Skjei and Strome out, fine. I'll cross my fingers and hope to get at least 5 good years out of him.

The Skjei return is a bit light IMO but ok whatever, they cleared all that space which can now be used towards keeping DeAngelo and have another pick that they can use towards getting another player.

Fast still being here is also dumb, but who knows maybe they intend to keep him beyond the next 20 games.

I don't like how they've forced a window on themselves, but they've still maintained their flexibility. If they want to start winning next year, then you better make the necessary moves this summer and boot the dead weight.

Maybe we can get to 7th and get another Lias.

Apparently we weren't able to goose Joe Thornton's value up enough to get him dealt at the deadline.

It's also not a "Self rental" if NYR plan on resigning Fast

Are we sure were done and there isn't a possible fast trade in the queue?

Young top 4 D with term left?

Yeah id want more than a late-ish 1st for him, and it sounds like Carolina gets to choose which one they send.

Better than Staal can.

I don't consider term on Skjei's contract to be a positive thing.
