Hypothetical...

Columbus wins the lotto and the Oilers win the #2 pick... they call Chiarelli and offer up Jones for the #2 pick as they want to draft Matthews+Laine.

Would you go for it?

Hypothetically yes, but Columbus would never in a million years do it. They moved their #1C to get Jones, they're not gonna move him for a winger...Not to mention he has been playing really well since getting there and is currently on what would be a 47 point pace had he played the full season in Columbus. They would probably not even move him for 1st overall.

No way Stone is not that good something must be added to make this deal happen
They are moving down one spot Laine is going to be as good as Matthews imo maybe better Stone is just starting to enter his prime as a dman is a right shot and is over shadowed by OEL

How far is someone like Dubois from being NHL ready?

He could surprise and make NHL straight out of camp probably. This is a guy who is very dedicated and just had a very big summer before this season and should have another big one going into the next. I wouldn't count on him making the NHL in the fall though but I could see him getting a cup of coffee. I'd say another year in the Q and getting the WJC experience wouldn't hurt him. I would expect him to be ready at the start of the 17/18 season.

Not a chance. Draft the Finn, then trade Hall for Jones or a comparable D-man. Laine in younger than Hall, and going to be better.

If Oilers were offered that deal they would take it and run. Also there is absolutely no guarantee that Laine is going to be better than Hall. It would be more reasonable to expect him not to be.

No.

Laine+McDavid would be magical. I'd offer RNH+Reinhart. Something around that value

I don't think people realize the effect Pouliot had on McDavid and on the PP. DuBois/Laine would be Pouliot but much more skilled and engaged. You draft one of these guys and you dump one of the 6M guys for defense.

Does anyone think the Oilers take Benson in the 2nd round. I have a feeling he may drop because of his injury riddled season.

I like the make up of this draft for Edmonton. Either landing a stud D, one of the Finn PWFs or Dubios

This team could get very big very fast. Say you get Hamonic for Eberle (just spitballing) and then add Matthews/Laine/Pulj/Dubios and then Eriksson/Lucic/Okposo/Backes in FA

You have added Kassian/Maroon/ 2016 PWF/ FA PWF, Hamonic is the span of 5 months

If we can draft Laine you do it. You only look at dealing him if you get a top 10-15D in the league that's in his mid 20's or younger for him. Laine is a perfect winger for Leon and McDavid.

Not a fan of Crawford personally, but he had some interesting quotes on Auston Matthews.

"He played a shift last night where he had 4 scoring chances on the shift. It was the best shift I've ever seen anybody play."

"He reminds me more of Joe Sakic now than anybody else. But he's bigger."

Auston Matthew's todaysslapshot article

With the style of game Matthews appears to play I could see him being a big part of a team next year. His game is pretty pro ready and he is good at finding open lane and also appears to be a good in close player

If hes on a team with good linemates I could see him get 65 next year

Looks like 8th overall is about the lowest we can pick. Who's in that range?

Would you go for it?

Yes, but only if a better D-man wasn't on the table. The 1-2-3 picks this year are all going to be very valuable. I'm still hoping for a Matthews for OEL/Petro swap. I know HF scoffs at the idea, but the media doesn't and I personally think those guys are viable trade options for the 1st overall this year.

I couldn't be less interested in adding any of the top 3 players available from the draft this year. I want our 1st traded 100%. I can't stress that enough.
