Maybe I'm crazy but Dubois to me looks as good as Laine or Puljujarvi ... maybe even (gulp) better?

He's just as big as either and perhaps more willing to get nasty, but he seems to be a little bit of a better skater with better playmaking abilities too and can play either wing or center. He has a terrific shot too.

Laine has a really nice looking shot, but I'm kinda iffy on the other parts of his game.

Puljujarvi is definitely the more complete player as of now. Laine meanwhile, has more flash in his game though. I would not be disappointing one bit if the Oilers came out the draft with Puljujarvi.

Here is an article comparing the two via hockeyprospectus.com

Dubois is really intriguing as a prospect, he seems like Chiarelli type player.

It's a pretty awesome draft for us...

Matthews
Laine
Puljujarvi
Dubois
Chychrun
Sergachev
Juolevi
Tkachuk

All fit needs (Matthews obviously less than the others, but he's matthews)

Laine has a terrific looking shot, but I'm not really seeing anything special speed wise or hands wise from him.

So, speaking of draft threads and tank threads, has anyone here wandered over to the Leafs tank thread lately?

I like to check out other teams tank threads as it's usually interesting to get other opinions (not on the main boards) on how the Oilers are playing, and on most team boards it's pretty level-headed and reasonable.

But not the Leafs.

Never the Leafs.

I have rarely seen a thread filled with so much hate, ignorance and blatant idiocy as that one. I understand that McDavid going to the Oilers was a kick in the junk, but this is borderline psychopath behaviour.

Anyways, it's actually pretty entertaining, and I don't even feel the need to refute any of the completely ungrounded claims as they're so blatantly incorrect that you just know there's no hope for a real discussion.

As with any fan base , it's usually the minority that is most stupid with their comments.

I went and read the last 5 or 6 pages of that thread and it's basically just another bad gameday thread. Are you sure you didn't wander into the Stormfront hockey forum by accident?

Really doesn't seem to be a consensus on the top defenseman of the draft at this point. Seems pretty split between Chychrun, Juolevi and Sergachyov.

Watching the Spits vs the Rangers first game I must say that Sergachev impresses me. For some reason I did not realise he was that big based on other times I have seen him play. He can really get up ice which is something the Oilers need and he battles hard.

I didn't see last nights game but it sounds like he had a solid game. He was the second star in a 6-4 Rangers win here in Kitchener. He had a couple of pp goals to go along with an assist in the first game.

Update to the lottery magic numbers. We can no longer pass Ottawa. We can still tie Arizona but we can't catch them in ROW. Both have been eliminated. We didn't get much help anywhere else last night.

I understand the love for Sergachev for sure. He is a very dynamic player. He has a lot to work on in the defensive end, but if he puts it all together he very easily could become the best defenseman from this draft.

I hate to use the word 'safe' for a prospect, because most people take that the wrong way around here, but that is exactly what Jakob Chychrun is. He still makes some poor reads in the defensive zone at times, but he is the real deal. He has that 'it' factor that you want, and I believe he could walk right into the NHL and contribute a solid game next year.

Although I like Juolevi, I really don't get the love for him as the top defender in this draft. Outside of his passing ability I really can't see anything in his game that is at the same level as Chychrun or Sergachev. In this draft, with the great depth of power forwards at the top end, there is no chance that I would even take a top 10 pick on Juolevi. That is not a shot at Juolevi, more a compliment to Chychrun/Sergachev and the forwards in the draft.

I understand what you're getting at there, but I worry that it's another case of..

Ryan Murray? Or Rielly? Lindholm? Trouba?
Adam Larsson? Or Hamilton, Klefbom, Brodin?

Posts like this are entertaining. You go to another teams board read a few posts that say we hope the oilers don't win the lotto or that the oilers suck and suddenly everyone is a psychopath ? There is no hope for a real discussion when you stereotype an entire fan base and over exaggerate the tone there. There is no hope for a real discussion because you have just demonstrated you are too narrow minded to have one.

If you made those statements about any other fan base it most certainly would be an infraction. Consider your own behaviour here , you have gone looking for a problem and then misrepresented the situation to create an imaginary problem, then gone back to your fan base with a superior attitude so you can look down on other people. I will assume this hurts your credibility with your fellow fans because I can't take a word you say seriously from here on in. I will not assume you represent Oilers fans in general just as I know smart Oilers fans know our fringe lunatics to do not speak for all of us.

It's not all Leaf fans man... but the attitude there is absolutely ridiculous. I've never seen a more embarrassing misguided collective opinion before.

I've been reading the comments over the last few days and shaking my head. At least I'm good enough to not go to another teams thread and respond to stir things up even more...

No-it's almost all of them. The vitriol and accusations made by them is just mindblowing

Like do they think they actually sound smart after reading what they've posted???? I mean, "Oilers started LB meaning they are tanking"???? I suppose a backup goalie should never start

Oilers can hold their heads up with pride in that they haven't legitimately tanked these last few years (well not since the departure of Tambo anyway)... they are just a genuinely crappy team. Other teams like Buffalo/Arizona and TO this year have had to actively dismantle their team to come down to the level of the Oilers.

I don't take seriously any of the tanking accusations hurled at the Oilers... I honestly don't think it was the goal of this org to once again be DFL (or damn close to it) this year. Chiarelli/McLellan likely didn't realize the extent of the suck in this team (although it was quite clear to most of us in the fanbase)... and of course injuries and lack of depth didn't help either which has been a perennial problem for this team.

I get why it's easy to get emotional when others insult your team.

Why even pay attention to idiots? Just ignore them and pick out the more rational posts.

I know it's likely been pointed out before... but if the Oilers do pick one of the top D in this draft... either Chychrun, Juolevi or Sergachyov... it's too bad none of them are RHD.

It seems almost impossible for this team to be able to acquire a high end RH dman.

Right shots in general on this team are almost non-existent.

How much of a factor do you think that is in the mediocre play of the team? I mean you'd have to think over the course of the season there must be many situations where that hurts the team somewhat both defensively and offensively to have so few natural RH shots in the lineup and getting into positions where they could take advantage of more scoring opportunities if they had a more balanced lineup.

It's probably not even something we can "know"... .but if we had closer to a 50-50 split in handedness on the team... we'd likely see more chances and scoring opportunities because players would be able to naturally get into situations to score whereas now they are always biased/cheating for those left hand shot situations.

Its funny Leaf Fans are trying to tell themselves this is the first rebuild they have done. Theyve been in the basement since 08, longer than the Oilers. Itll be funny once the kids start getting shelled and fans turn on them

Remember when Kadri was the next great #1C, Or schenn was the big #1D of the future. Does anybody really have Nylander above Kadri at same age? Both smaller soft guys who suck at defense

Either way, they cnat even tank properly. Lost out on McDavid cause of it, probably lose out on Matthews too

Leaf fans:
When Leafs are losing- "Losing is GREAT for the tank, love losing. Best way to do it"
When leafs are winning- :Winning is GREAT for the tank, give young guys some confidence, high draft picks dont help was much as winnign culutre"

FTR Oilers have better record since Leafs since TDL haha
