I've been saying the Devils should draft Garland, maybe even using as high as one of the 2nd round picks on him. That explosion in points from last year to this year shows a great trajectory. He's been talked about for a while, but he's passed over because of his size. This is from 6 years ago -

Agreed, he would be a nice pick-up with our 41st pick in my opinion.

It's about that time where I start looking at the later rounds, thankfully CHLstats is around to help inform me on these guys. One guy that's continued to be near the top of their charts in the Q is Anthony Richard. I think he was ranked 77th among NA skaters, if he falls that far I'd love to take him with our 3rd. I can't find any reports on his play, but he's among the top players in ES goals and put up 22 points in 17 games during the playoffs. Garland had 25 in 16 for what it's worth.

Zacha
Boeser
Musil
Another F or 2 (can't decide, I like Roslovic, Yan, and others)

Trade for Grigorenko

That should be a huge boost to our Top9 building project.

6 - Zacha
36 - Guryanov
41 - Dergachyov
67 - Hintz
97 - Musil

Of course, that depends on several guys falling, but that would be my dream draft.

There's a lot of overlap in everyone's dream draft. Hopefully we'll all find some things to be happy about.

I'm pretty excited about the first round overall even if we do trade our #6 and move down a few spots (which I'd rather just draft Barzal - he looked good in the U18 games or Marner if he's available) there are some good options around still. Rantanen is looking good, Crouse looked pretty good in his WJC games, even Zacha is a good option. I feel like it will be pretty hard to mess this one up.. but you never know. I'd rather draft the center first even though we need some RW'ers I feel like it's easier to sign or trade for a RW then a #1C. The sparing amount of news is driving me bonkers though, the next season can't come soon enough.

Acquiring wings should be easier, not many teams have an excess of centers.

f the devils could get either Guryanov or Eriksson-Ek with the first second round pick or trade up for them I would be pretty happy.

ideal draft for me would be(in order of our picks):
1. Marner/Provorov/Barzal/Zacha/Rantanen
2. Guryanov/Eriksson Ek/Beauvillier
3. Dergachyov/Korostelev
4. Timoshov

would be cool

I'm hoping for a draft that yields Zacha, Boeser, and Musil. If the Devils can acquire more picks and or players fall, any combo of Roslovic, Yan, Roy, Mintz and Brisebois sprinkled in would be great.

Plus, I'm sure there are names I'm forgetting at this point.

Would take Ivan over the other forwards despite need?

Marner or Provorov would be the best players available from what I have seen/heard/read. The Mock Draft board has a lot of 2015 mocks and most of them have their own analysis which is all insightful. A lot of them have us taking Barzal which I think would be a reach. Eliteprospects has him ranked at 8, 10, 11, 11, and 17.

I believe the arguement here is that Barzal missed a lot of time with an injury and had he played the whole season Ivan wouldnt be ranker higher then him.

someone said before the season started he was the 3 rated prospect behind McEichel. No idea if thats true.

I tend to agree with the masses. While i wouldnt be upset if we took Ivan i think we are better off going with a forward. I dont think the difference between Ivan, Barzal, Rantanen, and Zacha is enough to justify not going with a forward.

If we ate a bit of Elias's contract and packaged him with Gelinas, maybe we could get another first rounder this year?

If we're trading one of the kids, I'd rather it be for a forward that could help right away. Although maybe if you split Elias and Gelinas up into separate deals. Say something like Elias for a pick somewhere in the 45-50 range this year. Then package Gelinas with 41 for some more immediate forward help. So we could get immediate forward help and keep 3 picks in the top 45-50 of the draft. Although I'm not really sure what Elias' value is right now.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Elias traded at or around the draft. He's made thinly veiled comments on how he would like another shot at a Cup and it's not going to be here next season. I could see a deal where we take back a bad contract with short length and get a nice pick in return. Probably have to add something to it but I could see it happening and I would hope Patty wins another Cup and goes out on top.

I'd be ok with a 2nd in return. I wouldn't take back a bad contract, why not just retain some salary.

If Marner doesn't fall to us, I really hope we pick Barzal. If Hanifin somehow falls to 6, I don't see how you don't pick him. It would also make it a lot easier to trade Merrill for a forward.
