Agreed. Rogers/payroll will always be the big questionmark for this team, but I don't see this management group as the type to push so many chips in (the Ryu deal, the Springer deal, the Berrios trade) just to ease off and not push harder to take the next step (which is kind of funny to say now considering how many people were convinced they would never make a single big move just because they hadn't in Cleveland).

Agreed.

I've been a fan of alot of what Shatkins have done and found this quote earlier in the season very exciting.

"All signs point to that we are moving into an era of championship baseball, not a season of championship baseball,” Shapiro added."

I understand fully what he's saying but this division is absolutely crazy sometimes as we saw this season. In a interview with Bob McCown a few months ago Atkins said he'd like to see us having a 200m payroll so this offseason should be very interesting to watch.

Based on past trends, I've been kind of expecting them to peak at around $190 million during this contention "cycle", so getting to $200 million wouldn't be much of a stretch.

I still find it frustrating that Rogers doesn't spend a little bit more to try to push over the top. They can easily afford to outspend everyone else, but even if they just said "You can spend to the luxury tax but we won't approve anything over it" I would be on board. It's stupid that they cut themselves off so much lower.

Help me 'cheer' for a team today:

Which team would be more sad if they lost: Boston or ny?

Given the choice I pick the Yankees, only cause my grandpa was a die-hard Yankee fan and the biggest baseball fan I knew. Plus I can't really ever cheer for a Boston team.

As for the rest of the field, I'm on the Brewers bandwagon. I always kinda liked the Brewers and Go Rowdy! It's amazing how likeable he was but how quickly we forgot about him.

We can't complain that Tampa (especially) and Washington mailed it in for either game. Both had mostly starting lineups and Tampa used quality pitchers throughout the game.

I hated that the Rays left Choi in to lead off against Chapman with Diaz on the bench in the 9th inning of a tie game. That was the one half-assed move they made that they wouldn't normally make.

True

But we lost 71 games.

Flip any 2 of those losses and we could have rested our players in game 162 as well

Well, yeah, if the team wanted to be in they should have won more games. Simple enough. And Tampa Bay owes them nothing - if they want to rest their players for the playoffs, they absolutely should. It was just frustrating to watch it come down to that and see the Rays back off a bit at the end of the game.

It is frustrating...but lets be honest, i think they prefer to play the Yanks over us too.

Jays lost too many games early in the season because of a shitty bullpen

I have it on good authority that Alex Rios will not be signing a deal with the Jays to attempt to make a comeback.

Questionable tatic's at the end of the game, 1B open Judge up and Gio up next, who was one of the league leaders in hitting into Double Plays. At the end of the day if I was TB I wouldn't want to face the Jays either, Boston and NY are both weaker teams. It was smart for TB to lose to NY. Easy 1st round opponent.

Yea, with Cole used up in the wild card game, Tampa is laughing.

Cole is beatable. He look pretty human against us. He also was fighting a hamstring injury a few weeks ago. If a pitcher does not have his legs .. he's f-ed... Boston's pitching is garbage, maybe Sale is a difference maker. NY pitching after Cole is meh!... Can anyone see a scenario where Boston or NY beats Tampa Bay?

Eovaldi vs Cole tonight, so that means for the first 4 games (I probably have the order wrong):
Sale/Houck/Eovaldi/Rodriguez or Kluber/Cortes/Cole/Taillon (or Montgomery)

I'll take Boston's group for sure. They also have a much better offense. The only area where the Yanks have an advantage is the bullpen.

I think Boston would have a decent shot at beating the Rays or at least, more so than the Yanks

Good summary.

During a Jays vs Boston telecast they posted Boston's pitching stats and their performance does not support the Sox record.

Boston was some what lucky to be a 90+win team.

I think TB wins their first series in a sweep.
