I agree to some point. Then I remember the way he treated certain players and think meh. He had his good and bad points. Glad we’ve moved on.

Fair and I guess you could say that for most coaches. One good thing was that Hyman became a very good player for us who fits in nicely in our top 2 lines, not sure that happens with another coach (though he did go overboard with his love for him).

The bad ... I think that's been covered.

If this guy doesn't decide to believe in the Shanaplan we're still tossing jerseys and waffles on the ice today. I don't care if he made questionable decisions from time to time, he gave the organization a level of credibility that we were never going to reach without him. He's the man who finally eliminated the country club in the Toronto dressing room. Now instead of a bunch of players who are entitled because of the Maple Leaf on their chest we have a bunch of players who are entitled because they are a bunch of millennial brats. That's much easier to stomach in my opinion, thanks for that Mike.

Babcock did a great job in the first couple of years. He protected and helped bring the best out of players like Kadri.

Thank you Babcock for getting us into the playoffs three years in a row after years and years of no-playoff drought.

I dont know what happened at the end of 2018 - but at that time his system became rigid, he killed creativity on his end or the players end and the whole team suffered and got worse and worse and worse.

In 2018, his innate myopia for lunchpail grunts like Hyman, Komorov, Brown, and aged Marleau, began to focus in on his top elite players instead - He had no pet toys.

All he had were fast skating puck handlers.

He was forcing them to defend CONSTANTLY by playing that crap stationary chip up system. Always a man back, just incase.

He wouldve been caught crapping the bed earlier last season had it not been for the chemistry of JT and Marner, and Matthews being a stud.

We all know what happened by February this year. And it looked alot like the last 2 months.

Rex the Golden Retriever would not have imposed systems on this shinny team.
Rex is a more suitable coach for this run and gun Leafs team than Babcock.

On the bright side we're about to watch HF have to flip to using /60 rates to discredit Matthews' raw totals instead of the other way around.

They can try.

ES p1/60, min 14mpg:

1.Marchand 4.04
2.Draisaitl 3.77
3.Pastrnak 3.18
4.Huberdeau 2.95
5.McDavid 2.54
6.Matthews 2.49

Mike Babcock is a good coach. A legend, even. He deserves a ton of credit for coming here and helping rebuild this team.

Thank you Mr. Babcock for your service to the Leafs.

I think a lot of fans were frustrated with him because there was an obvious disconnect with how Dubas built the team and how Babcock coached it. We placed a lot of blame on Babs, and I think more than just him deserved to shoulder that.

It was time for a change, but I appreciate what Babcock did for us.
Yes I do appreciate what he did in the cultivation and ground work and blue print of a professional hockey team . His hard work and strong work ethics were terrific for the first 4 years , but his inability to alter his style for the overall success of the the team and vision that was being constructed by the GM and President is what failed him . To be honest his boring style and stubbornness actually turned me off from being a fan .
So all in all thank you , but it was time to move on .

At the end of the day, Babcock was trying to win the cup and do what he felt was right. I’ll thank him for his efforts, but unfortunately it was time to move on.

I won't miss him. But he did deliver on his promise that Toronto will attract world-class free agents. And we might even attract a few more now that he's gone.

I dont think it's quite that black and white of course as goaltending slipped quite badly the 2nd half of last season as well as two key injuries on the blue line (saved somewhat by the Muzzin aquisition)

It looks like it was one of the problems hurting the team though.

Babcock did a great job. Hundred point seasons and playoff losses to teams that were clearly better than Toronto (Boston & Washington). He obviously wasn’t coaching in the way that Dubas built the team so he had to go, end of story.

Keefe will love Hyman, he played almost 21 minutes last night. Anybody who goes out their way to bash Hyman really doesn’t know **** about hockey. Luckily Keefe does.

I don't think many bash Hyman anymore. Perhaps at first it was a vented frustration with him missing passes, and plays from Matthews and Nylander.

But that AGAIN was entirely on Babcock Misusing him. He was on the right role, as the puck retriever, but as soon as Teams figured out Nylander is ONLY going to pass to Matthews and vica versa, it was dead plays more often than not. Babs not adjusting, and not making plays for his double star player line to succeed - Ad nauseum

With JT and Marner, Hyman was at the benefit of JT who makes good assists his whole career, and Marner, who is an assist king. That opened up some ice, and Hyman put some decent goals in net.

Its amazing seeing Hyman winning board battles, and coming out with the puck. That is legit his strength. He did that 3 to 4 times in the O zone VS the Aves and made it look easy.

The Hyman rants are usually bursts of frustrations akin to seeing someone Choosing a Formula 1 car on a track that has a Dirt road on Corner 6 - AGAIN and AGAIN * BABS*
Sometimes Hyman is a good roster choice when you need some bang up front, and struggling getting possession.
But when you just need some quality chances, and getting pucks on net for good chances, double shift your other players on this Offensive heavy team.

Glad Hyman is back - Keefe will use him even better.
LOL at Babs using him with one leg vs Begeron in the playoffs.

He will be top nine and used a lot to hold leads. You need guys like Hyman to have a balanced look, he’s a very useful player.

Great hire at the time.
Organization benefitted from him while he was here.
He failed to evolve with the organization and was given ample time to do so.
I feel it would have been great to win with him, but it was very clear that was never going to happen.
Wish him all the best and a sincere thanks for what he brought.

Babcock thought this team lacked an identity.

Babcock's favorite player on this team - by FAR - was zach fricken hyman.

What an embarrassment.

What an absolute waste of the last 2yrs.

Zach is the hardest forchecker on the team, responsible defensively, and always gives it his all even when he's playing on a torn knee.

He would be a favourite of any coach in the league.

Not a favorite.

THE favorite. By far.

Why is it so hard to read and adhere to literally the first sentence of the OP? You have many other threads for this type of comment.

This.

Tons of things you can fault Babcock on. Pointing out that he likes Hyman is pretty silly.
