There are plenty of other places on these boards to complain about how Babcock was as a person or coach. This thread is not for that, though. We're just asking that people don't flood their negative comments in a thread that is meant to be the exact opposite.

What went wrong, TO had a great year last year Marner 94 points, JT had his best year 88 points with 47 goals, Matthews had his best year 73 points in 68 games without Ny, Rielly nearly all-star good with 72 points and a phenomenal +24?

It would be nice if all coaches were awesome cheerleaders but they're not, tough love is an NHL fact. TO has thrived with Babs, the players have thrived with Babs, I doubt very much Babs has changed and Babs is undoubtedly miserable and even more so when the Leafs aren't doing well and they haven't been.

The press are saying Keefe might be Dubie's and Shanny's last stand, are the players never responsible?

The majority of our core has only been on this team under Babcock. We haven't seen them in any other situation as a Leaf. If they're the same under a different coach, sure we can start pointing fingers.

Its 2019. Tough love is great and very effective but like any tactic or strategy it varies based on the litany of personalities within the organization. It is Babcock's job to be able to communicate to each personality in the way that lets that athlete thrive.

He wants things done his way, and only his way. That's fine. But when the going gets tough, and losses pile up, you're out the door.

In spirit of this thread, Babcock was crucial in turning the Leafs culture around. Bringing in a coach with a big reputation surely helped turn the culture and team environment around from the "Muskoka 5" days.

His first year they finished last but it was a weak roster and they all worked hard. His second year his team made the playoffs and took the capitals to 5 fukking overtimes after having made the playoffs for the first time in half a decade or so. That's very respectable.

After that, it's a different story. Sure, I don't like him either and reading these recent stories makes you kind of pissed off, but it's very short sighted and a prime example of recency bias to act like he brought nothing good to this team when two years ago y'all were singing his praises.

Enjoy your day Babcock supporter! I know I am. 6-0 trouncing of the Wings, Keefe 3-0 since taking over and the players enjoying hockey again and the team playing like they are capable of under a coach that knows what he's doing. Feels so good to be right all along.
