The Sins Of The Buffalo Sabres In The Last 15 Years, List Them...(One Per Post Please)

to me, it was the moment they decided to let LaFontaine/Patrick walk and sided with Kim Pegula presidenting all over the building. This was the true beginning of the end. The immediate aftermath was a disjointed execution of the deep rebuild, while Tim Murray was in out of his depth taking on so much (I truly think he was going to be a background type character, doing a lot of scouting and picking groceries while LaFontaine, under the guidance of Craig Patrick, was going to be the face of the team and doing a lot of the interpersonal stuff.

The Pegulas went all-in on themselves and Kim's night school business degree and decided never to relinquish control again. The whole operation has been a crumbling and decaying joke since that day.

^^^^ This is a good one and telling of what's going to be happening.

Someone mentioned it but, Eichel and his surgery. If they allow it, then Reinhart most likely stays as well.

Another one - Bringing RoR in and then giving a true two way top 6 center 4th line defensive assignment usage and punishing him for being a good defensive player. They took any enjoyment away from RoR and that's when this whole idea of players losing their love of the game in Buffalo to start

Wait - is that real? How the hell did I miss that one? Trading him was one thing. But trading him AND two 2nds for Fasching & Parker (??? I think??) -- that has to fall on Tim Murray. Complete idiot.

It was Nic Deslauriers who fit the mold of having enforcers around to protect what he thought he was tanking for in McDavid. He even talked about the idea of EKane on McDavid's wing as both finisher and protection.

But yeah, McNabb was apparently dating one of the Pegulas' daughters. I don't know which one.

Odd but I thought hiring a guy with no experience to be team president in LaFontaine who has also now quit other jobs under odd circumstances was just more of the same -- and he had a hand in hiring Murray as well. Terry even said he decided to hire LaFontaine after going to dinner with him. Not that he was looking for a PoHO or even that it was an interview. It was a guy reaction hire to put someone with no experience in a vital position and it bit the team in the ass just like all the other newbs they've hired.

Oh right - DeeLo. I guess we were the ones who sent Parker to the Kings. Murray was a real mystery. He wanted to be tougher (DLo and Kane), but then in less than a year he trades away McNabb and Zadorov. And then the following year, having traded away those two, he fumbles the draft and picks Nylander instead of McAvoy, Sergachev or Chychrun. Imagine our D core with McAvoy, Zadorov and McNabb instead of Risto and Bogo. Like I said before - that guy was an idiot.

I get that, but he likely knew he had a lot of ground to make up in the way of experience. He had Craig Patrick in his corner. For all his warts, Tim Murray was lauded as a good evaluator of talent. I wonder if it all could have worked. One thing is for sure, it was LaFontaine's intent/understanding not to consult Kim and Terry Pegula every single decision.
I also know, what LaFontaine was saying publicly were all the correct things. The organization was putting a very lofty standard on itself and was striving for excellence, and that is something they now refuse to do.

While I wonder if it would have worked, I do think it is telling that LaFontaine has not pursued a front office career after the fact. I wonder how committed he would have been for the long-haul.

Trotting out a clown car of garbage, D or F-tier assistant coaches year after year and then wondering why so many of the team's young players don't pan out

Underrated moment reported today by Lance.

Team was upset with KA after Benson, Ryan Johnson and Levi made the roster the season after missing the playoffs by one point.

IIRC Okposo said later that a couple weeks into that season they knew this wasn't their year, or something.

Forcing youth (and not just Levi) killed last season in the crib.

Well they were wrong on Benson. And he outplayed almost every single guy who could have complained as a rookie. I get they would want a proven player…but that player needed to replace some of them more than 18 year old Benson who was, at worst, the fourth best forward on the team. They would have needed 9 new players to force him out

Johnson wasn’t ready but he wasn’t even the worst Johnson getting ice time on D that year.

Adams has bungled Levi every step of the way and we’re lucky he has the focus to block it out and develop when they get around to letting him do so every year.

Interesting quote:

according to multiple veteran players, the frustration of losing led to some griping over factors that were out of their control. They had concerns that Ruff’s system in the defensive zone was causing them to take too many penalties and lose coverage around their net. They had disagreements about their strategy on special teams.

The fans are seeing these issues too, but for now the blame is going to the idiots standing next to Ruff on the bench. If they make changes to the assistants and the issues persist...

The sin of the fans: cheering for loses during the tank, taking pride in being bad. We created a new culture, the wrong culture, which we've been stuck with since.
Is this Harrington's burner ? Now it's the fans fault ??

The Bruins tanked this end year and might get a guy like Hagans now, you think they will miss the playoffs for 15 years ? The fans would burn the Garden down, not sell there tickets to border fans.

Interesting, seems like all the other teams who also tanked didn't do that, just the Sabres.
Must be a case of not enough palm trees to protect from such spirits.

Shits on poster who draws attention to fan complicity in pathetic state of franchise, then proceeds to shit on very same fan base.
