Bottom line is he is a good coach who has some stubborn traits like all.
He did a great job at the start. He just didn’t change.

he has NO adjustments. At all. Everyone could see it coming. I am no genius and I could pick the lines and the usage and pp set plays.

Thank you Michael for keeping the world on your shoulders in toronto and taking the heavy heat like michael mann.

You'sa real man, sometimes wrong, sometimes right, but you is a man.

It's not the end Michael, but always the beginning.

Best of luck.

Instant credibility when he was hired. Gave time and space for Dubas/Shanahan to play with their moneyball hypothesis.

Now the cover is gone. He gets paid. All good. That’s the business.

What next?

We know that Shanahan can build a team that finishes last and can fire people.

We know that Dubas can sign contracts and can secure funding for his analytics science project.

Now, we will find out if either of them can actually accomplish anything.

A Rookie President. A Rookie GM and now a Rookie Coach.

Feeling confident.... anyone?

I think Babcock just isn't good at systems and tactics and has always sought out assistant coaches who can help him in that area. DJ Smith was decent help, but Hakstol has been terrible and sunk Babcock.

Thank You Mike Babcock! Best of luck in the future (except if you're an opposing coach).

You came, you tried to instill some structure and discipline, you gave us some excitement in 3 straight playoffs run and you left with a boatload of cash.

For a coach in Toronto, that's a successful tenure.

One of those things where this is just part of this teams process. Babs did some great stuff and really helped develop some players in his early years.

He was excellent at the beginning and a real stabilizer when the team had to tank. Sure, things didn't work out later on but he was key in setting the right tone.

Babs is definitely still a good coach and I'm sure he'll do a wonderful job wherever he goes.

I was always critical of Babcock, so now that he is gone, I would just like to say thanks for coaching the team in your first year to last overall in the league and giving us Matthews. Oh and don’t let the GD door hit you in the ass on the way out!
Not what I was trying to think to say about Babcock but I absolutely love it. Haha! I am pretty pumped he is gone too! But since this is a thank you thread, I would like to say thank you for being so egotistic that you are not the coach any more of the Leafs! His ego got the best of him, he could of been a good coach here.

I was excited when he came here and I do thank him for what he’s done, but, it was time for him to go.
Agreed 100%. He had to go. Was a lame duck. The players and GM are now under the microscope. If the players dont show up, its even worse than we thought.

Babcock coached Canada to victory at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey on September 29, 2016, making him the first and only coach to date to have won the Stanley Cup, an Olympic gold medal (2010 & 2014), a World Cup, a World Championship, and a World Junior Championship.

Mike Babcock will be a 1st ballot Hockey Hall of Fame inductee as he has achieved success at the coaching level both NHL and Internationally that no coach can claim on his resume.

He currently sits 7th overall in all time NHL coaching wins with 700, so it will be interesting to see if he wants to continue up that esteemed achievement ladder, and with whom that will be with or if 17 seasons is enough.

5th OA Lou Arbour 782 wins 6th Lindy Ruff 736 wins sit right above him so if Babs decided to coach another few years he could put himself in the top 5 All-time winningest NHL coaches.

He leaves the Leafs as the All-time franchise record holder for points 105 and wins 49 in single season in 2017-18 a 100 year best achievement.

Mr Babcock thank you for bringing the Leafs back to prominence over the past 5 years. You were hired with a goal, and a system that was proven throughout your entire career. Are you stubborn and hold everyone accountable? Yes. But any proven true leader is always brought into any organization with a skill set that made them successful in their past stops. You were no different. Unfortunately you cant fit a circle into a square hole. You worked with what you were provided, and over the past 2 years I have not seen one acquisition that compliments your system you were trying to succeed with. Even when they did they acquired a LHD in Muzzin when it was clearly evident that you needed and wanted an upgrade next to Reilly. But its neither here or there, the end of the line has come. Someone had to be the scapegoat and unfortunately it was you. Only time will tell if this changes anything. But if it does without any player personnel changes, then it speaks to how you lost the room. And this only has to do with a GM that made young players run this team from signing their second contracts and making their egos get larger then the team itself.

Thank you once again for you commitment and openness throughout your tenure in Toronto. I would like to wish you and your family nothing but the best down the road. You are a great man and coach. The city of Toronto owes nothing but gratitude to you for what you brought to this city. Its unfortunate we could see the plan through with you ultimately winning the long awaited cup with the Leafs. But your teachings and presence will go a long way in this team eventually reaching its final destination. It happened with Casey and the Raptors, it will happen with the Leafs I have no doubt.

Cheers

It is always hard to fire a HOFer who came here when few would. But his time had run out much like Marleau. They both got paid off HUGE for their troubles. Thanks for helping to get us where we are. Now it is time to move forward with a new coaching plan.
