Thank You Babcock

I agree with you. I did shift to the can Babcock crowd eventually. That said, he laid the groundwork for higher expectations for the leafs, helped to coach us to the playoffs 3 times after nearly a decade being mired in darkness, and most importantly made leafs nation be live that were a relevant force in the NHL again. I can see him as the coach for Seattle and he will give them some credibility out of the gate. I was saying this for awhile too- he's a good coach, but he wasn't the right coach for this team any longer. Good luck Mike!

Word class coach. I very much disagree with the notion that his philosophy’s are old school and no longer relevant in today’s NHL. I wouldn’t be surprised if Babcock wins a 2nd cup before we do.

We were doing fine. And Shanahan decided to fix what wasn't broken. Brendan and Kyle have no excuses left.

He was getting really frustrating but I don't put this on him.

Liked him then and like him now. Just don’t think he works with those guys. I feel he needs tough guys that can take accountability.

these players might not have liked being put in the spotlight.
It's a weird roster with a lot of different self interests to manage.

You have a bunch of guys who are brand new to the league and are just trying to make their mark like Mikheyev or Timashov. You have retreads who couldn't make it on other squads but are trying to salvage an opportunity here like Petan and Shore. You also have guys who are entering a big contract year, and are new to the team, like Tyson Barrie, Cody Ceci and to a lesser extent Jake Muzzin. There's the leadership group that is experienced and solely focused on winning, like Rielly, Tavares and Muzzin again.

And then of course there's the superstar kids who got their big payday and haven't really been here for the dark times or really seen what true struggle is like, in Nylander, Matthews and Marner.

In between that you have the support level players on contract who have to work hard every game otherwise they get stapled to the bench, like Kapanen, Johnsson, Hyman (though he'll never get benched regardless), Kerfoot etc.

A lot of dynamics to manage and the team lacked an identity and camaraderie, especially since the old group that loved being here and spent so many years here were all purged out (Kadri, Gardiner, JVR, Bozak, Komarov, etc)

Babcock was excellent for us.

People who think we will suddenly be a much better team without him are going to be sorely disappointed, but when the team is struggling as much as we are, changing the coach is the first way to shake things up.

Best of luck to Babcock wherever he goes.

Group dynamics shows that you have a leader, a bully, a joker and a nerd (Ice Guardians and Lucifer Principles Howard Bloom).

the bully keeps everyone in line. Who the **** is that on the Leafs. Kadri might have been that guy the could keep the team in line. I don’t know. It could also be with so many changes the team dynamics shifted and there weren’t any individuals that could find their roles.

My coworker was working construction at a hotel downtown toronto last year... started at 5 am and had tons of supplies to carry in... said Babcock was walking out of the hotel and saw him bringing supplies so he held the door open for like 10 minutes for him to carry everything in. And such a good positive guy man. Who else would have payed attention to a bunch of construction workers at 5am and held the door for them in the cold... I'd assume only the people claiming he has an ego would have held the door open too right... Such a malicious, judgmental group of people slandering him and talking about how he has an ego. Makes me sick

He brought in accountability and stability to the team and protected in young players in this market. It would be so Leafs, if Buffalo picks him up and wins with him...

I remember how excited I was when Babcock signed with leafs back in may 2015. Really felt leafs were back on track. I remember thinking myself how the leafs hit the jackpot with Babcock being the coach after leafs clinched the playoffs in 2017.

Goodluck babs

Was a great hire, immediately made us a class organization with big aspirations.

Shelf life, but thanks. You lost me during the Boston series, but....

I was excited when he came here and I do thank him for what he’s done, but, it was time for him to go.
Word for word, this is what I think too. I like the guy, based on his interactions with media etc. Wish him all the best.

He played a significant role in restoring respectability to the franchise. Ultimately, he wasn't the right coach to take us to the next level. I wish him well.

Great coach and seems like a great person. Taught our young core how to be professionals in this league and redefined what it meant to be a Toronto Maple Leaf. Wish him and his family the best of luck going forward.

The question will now always be 'Where would be be if we kept Lou' Getting rid of him just managed to get a world class coach fired. Maybe Babs was the problem. But i highly doubt it.

I have nothing but well wishes.

I was going to make an appreciation thread but good thing the OP did.
As much I criticized Babcock, the guy is a fine coach but he needs a certain kind of roster to do well. Good luck to Mike and he brought back respectibility to the organization that was needed.
Your a good man but it was time for a change.

I. AM. SHOCKED.

Classy :handclap:

I said this before, but he’ll likely go elsewhere and have success.

I think his firing was the correct move, but I can’t help but be disappointed. I was stoked when we hired him. I thought he would be the coach.

He did a lot of positives for this organization much like what Dwayne Casey did for the Raptors.

He like every coach had a shelf life, but there's no denying the impact he had on this entire organization. Regardless of whether or not he's a good coach now, he's a good person and I think that means a lot

He's a great coach, unfortunately his shelf life in Toronto had simply ended. He'll easily find another job and have success there.

I've really disliked some of his coaching from usage to plain old stubbornness, but I'll always respect him for being the coach that brought the Leafs back to respectability.

Never heard anything bad about Mike as a person. He's achieved a lot, so he has an ego in a professional setting and believes things need to operate in a certain way. I wish him the best of luck on his future endeavors. He was very successful early in his tenure here.
