Why will he be a UFA in 1.5 years? He’s an RFA at end of this year. We could sign him for 3-4 years if we want. He’s elite defensively and works very hard. If we can turn it around quickly he would be helpful in the POs. Why would we give him up for some 3rd round pick who likely won’t make the team?
Why would he re-sign for 3-4 years barring major overpay? How are you going to turn THIS team around in 3 years with so many bad contracts and zero notable prospects coming in just 3 years?

But isn't this almost always the case with decent players that have bad contracts? Nobody wants them when they have 3/4 years left. With only 1/2 years left, the commitment is much lower, especially midway through the season.

With that said, if Montreal wants real value for Drouin this year they'll need to retain a good bit, or wait until the deadline next year.
Seattle could have had him for free. Basically every team could have had him for free with only two years left. Unless you’re retaining half no one would take him as is. At 50% you’ll probably get a 3rd, if you’re lucky a 2nd.

He’s not a top 6 player on a contender and not a bottom 6 player

I am genuinely curious to see what a 50% retained Drouin, who scored a whopping 15 goals in the last 3 years COMBINED, would fetch. IMHO he needs to be an add-on to Lehtonen to get a Compher/Kerfoot type of return

Lol what?

Guhle, Harris, Mailloux, Struble, our 2022 and 2023 top3 picks, Farrell... Habs have more than enough great prospects coming up in the next few years

See previous post. Why are you going to overpay a 3rd line player when you have essentially no shot for 3+ years?

First thing you dont have to overpay.

Second he is very good at what he do. You can give him a 1 year Contract this Summer and Trade him next year if nobody want to overpay for him. Y Rush the Trade ?

You guys are in the bottom third in terms of prospects and your 2022 and 2023 prospects don’t exist yet. You’re well more than 3 years away from the playoffs.

Because he’s not going to suddenly get more value next season and teams would pay more for 1.5 years versus 1. You’re probably going to have to overpay anyone to sign 3-4 years with the Habs when they don’t need to with the state of your franchise.

I could see a team trading a ~3rd- 5th for him if he’s 50% retained to have a backup player in their top 6 in case of injury. More likely to happen next season though

How come I saw you in every Habs related thread with all kind of negative comments. It's better for everybody if you stay away and keep your hatred for the Habs to yourself.

Why not? Because of the big EDM MON rivalry?
Edmonton will likely want Montreal to retain salary .
Montreal can only retain salary for 3 players at value of 15% of the cap if they make the changes expected they will need to retain salary on other more important players they trade .
If Montreal no longer want Drouin they will let him finish this season in Montreal and use the buyout option instead of retaining salary in a trade .

Ghule is prob one of the 4-5best rookie dman not playing in the NHL. Habs aren't bottom 3rd at all

I hate homerism, not the Habs. Cheered for you guys to win the Cup this past season. You guys just have some extremely out of touch posters

According to most ratings, including HF boards… yeah you really are. Guhle is good, but the rest is pretty meh compared to most other teams. You’re more than 3 years out from the playoffs.

Actually yes he COULD. Since like 12 teams are put of playoffs the market Will prolly be a buyer one. As ive Been saying, no Rush to Trade him, except obv if the offer is great. A second isnt great btw.

As much as I want Lehkonen on the Leafs I think the Habs would be smart to sit on him to after Miller gets moved and the teams that missed out will prob up their offer for Lehk
